I am wanting to pick a flower to put into my bouquet to represent our grandparents that have passed away....?

does anyone know what flower is tradtional used to symbolize rememberance of a loved one? I would use 4 of them (for the 3 grandparents of his and 1 of mine that has passed away) and that flower will not be seen anywhere else in the wedding.

I am wanting to pick a flower to put into my bouquet to represent our grandparents that have passed away....?
CARNATION (PINK) - I'll Never Forget You

CATTAIL - Peace, Prosperity

FORGET ME NOT - True Love, Memories

HYACINTH (PURPLE) - I Am Sorry Please Forgive Me, Sorrow

POPPY (GENERAL) - Eternal Sleep, Oblivion, Imagination

ROSE (DARK CRIMSON) - Mourning

ROSE (TEA) - I'll Remember, Always

ZINNIA (MIXED) - Thinking (or in Memory) Of An Absent Friend

ZINNIA (YELLOW) - Daily Remembrance
Reply:Roses are typically seen at funerals as are lillies.

I would use a flower that was a favorite of the grandparents. Grandfathers might not have a favorite flower but the grandmothers might have.

As an alternative, try to find old pictures of the weddings of your grandparents and choose a flower that grandmother used in her bouquet.

OR...was there a flower that the grandfathers would typically give to the grandmother on special occasions? Like birthday or anniversary?

OR....what flowers did grandmother plant in her garden.

any of these ideas would be personal and bring memories of your grandparents to your mind.
Reply:tuck a few forget me nots into your bouquet - they come in pinks, blues and mauves and are so pretty. what were their favourite flowers and colors? you could add a specific flower to represent each one of them. for example forget me nots have always been my favourite flower, daisies are my cousin's fave, cabbage rose is a fave of my b.f. if they are only appearing in your bouquet then adding them wouldn't cost you too much more!

our daughter had a charm in her bouquet - it was in memory of her father's mum - a lovely lady who absolutely loved horses, so we found a charm to represent her love. our other daughter's bouquet had pink ribbons in it to represent her favourite aunt who had passed. so if you don't particularly want flowers think outside the box, a charm, a ribbon, a tatted hankie, whatever you choose. its a lovely idea and i'm glad to see there is a bride here with such sentimental feelings!

good luck and happy wedding!
Reply:You may want to think about doing something else. Whenever you see your wedding pictures those flowers in your bouquet are going to stand out and be all you focus on. You shouldn't be dwelling on sad things like death on your wedding. Your grandparents wouldn't want that anway. Remember them in a different way like having your grandparents wedding photos displayed at the reception.

Also, rosemary is for remembrance - you can have some tucked into your bouquet, it's very fragrant
Reply:You should try to find out what their favorite flower was. I am using one star gazer lily for my dad. My sister, and I will have one in our bouquets, and my mom will have one in her flowers.
Reply:Everyone I know has used Roses. If you want other roses in the wedding you could use another color to symbolize the grandparents?
Reply:I can't find anything that represents loved ones who have passed away. I would say maybe ask your parents what their favorite flower or color was and use those flowers or colors.
Reply:forget-me-nots? I dont honestly know, but we have those planted to remember our loved ones, and they come in all different colors, they are very pretty and could be paired with just about any color arrangement
Reply:For my grandmother I used the flower she had in her bouquet when she got married.

Gladioluses ... though those are very large stems with multiple blooms ... http://www.ccfc.org/encyclopedia/img/56....

Myrtle (which is usually a greenery stem, not a flower, so the flower might be hard to find) http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/pictures/...

Twisted willow http://www.martinsdriedflowers.co.uk/sho...

Something to think about: a lot of these flowers are small flowers that come with more than one bloom to a stem, I don't know if that throws off your desire to have one for each grandparent.

I personally love the idea of having 4 strands of twisted willow coming out of your bouquet - it's unique and it's something that won't interfere with whatever color scheme you were going for in your bouquet.

However, if there is a particular flower that makes you think of your grandparents - perhaps a flower that you had placed in an arrangement at their funerals? Also, in many cultures (though not so much here in the US) lilies (especially calla lilies, I think) are symbolic of both beauty and death, and lilies are always lovely in a bouquet.
