Where does the tradition of throwing the wedding bouquet come from?

why does is symbolise the next to get married?

Where does the tradition of throwing the wedding bouquet come from?
in ancient times, the bride had to guard against her maid of honor or bridesmaids stealing her groom away. if she caught one of them in the act, she would throw a brick or other heavy implement to stop the woman. this often killed the marauding maid of honor/bridesmaid, so the village elders made a law that would punish the interloper by marrying her off to the first man who visited the village. at first this punishment was terrible, since only vagrants and bums would come by the village. but one day, a very handsome traveller passed by the village directly after a wedding occurred in which a maid of honor tried to steal the bridegroom away. the bride missed with the brick, but the maid of honor - so smitten by the handsome stranger, quickly returned the stolen groom and eagerly got married to the handsome stranger.

thus over the years the tradition has evolved into a ritual of throwing flowers instead of a brick and extending generous wishes for the woman who catches the bouquet to marry next (and hopefully to a handsome stranger).
Reply:i do not know.but that is a very good question/i gave you a star
Reply:not sure about that but carrying a bouquet started in the 1500's

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell,

so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Reply:i think it came from egypt because when the kings and queen used to get married they requested a flower bouquet and flowers were so rare back then especially in egypt they used to throw it to people so at least the person that caught it would be happy!
