For my wedding I would like to have a wildflower bouquet using native or organically grown flowers. I've contacted a local organic farmer who will sell her flowers to me. She has "prairie flowers" (central IL), cosmos, zinnias, and sunflowers. What types do you think will look best and hold up as cut flowers in a bouquet?

That would be so beautiful! I love sunflowers - but they are so BIG! zinnias might be pretty as you can have more options of colors and mix them with a soft feathery leaf or a type of heather or something. Even just white and green is really classy and beautiful with lovely long silk ribbons hanging down.
Reply:Who is going to make the bouquets? Are they familiar with handling "wildflowers?" As mentioned above, they generally do not last for than a few hours. If you are making the bouquets, will you have the time and experience?
I'd feel safer with the farmer's flowers. Make sure they cut them young enough and condition them properly to make it to and through the ceremony.
Personally I can't stand the smell of sunflowers, hopefully you can. Fortunately the current fashion is for simple arrangements, clusters bound with ribbon.
Reply:Cosmos, zinnias and sunflowers will hold up well. Actual wildflowers are too fragile for a boquet and will wilt in a hurry.
