Are silk flowers alright for a bouquet in a lower-budget wedding?

can i make my own bouquet to look nice using silk flowers???? i am going to have a low budget wedding, and I feel that a lot of silk flowers look like the real thing.

Are silk flowers alright for a bouquet in a lower-budget wedding?
Why wouldn't they be all right?

With a silk flower bouquet, you (or the person who catches the bouquet) has a lovely keepsake for the rest of your lives.

Alternately, if you're looking to save money, I have friends who've gotten their flowers at a big discount from a floral design school. The students get to practice and the brides get to save big! I've also seen farms/u-pick places that will let you grab a HUGE bucket of flowers for a low price.

Good luck and congrats on the upcoming wedding! :)
Reply:Absolutely! I would just be careful where you get them from....some look really cheesy (like from dollar stores). The ones they sell in craft stores like AC Moore or Michaels are really nice and they always have 40%off coupons in the paper! Real flowers just cost so much and die in a couple days. At leat the silk you can cherish forever!
Reply:Of course you can use silk flowers if you want to keep costs down. Some silk flowers are very nice! Make sure you price around because sometimes you can get deals on fresh flowers from local supermarkets like Stop n Shop, where you can get affordable real flowers.
Reply:of course you can, that's what I plan to do.
Reply:They are fine for any style of wedding, and are even used in fancy weddings.

However, if you have the ability to make them is another thing. I'm sure there are lots of DIY directions on the net.
Reply:of course you can its your wedding and I'm sure they look just as nice as fresh flowers.
Reply:Absolutely! But only make them yourself if you are crafty. I am not and found it near impossible to simply wrap a ribbon around the stems.

Also, if there is a Michael's craft store, they have bridal bouquets pre-made for only $12.99!!!
Reply:Sure. A lot of brides have a silk bouquet made to match the real one, so they'll have a keepsake. They throw the "real" one at the reception, but still have their silk one for years afterward.
Reply:Remember this is about you and your man becoming a family. Not the color of the dress and who wore what shoes. And if you want the silk flowers then so be it. I was at a "lower budget" wedding recently and the bride carried 3 roses and the other girls (2) carried one flower.

I was at another wedding and the girls carried candles. So what ever you and the man want is what it should be. Just a helpful hint if you want them to "look real" don't go overboard and keep in mind of the flowers in season.
Reply:Forget that real brides only carry real flowers crap. Not only was I on a budget, but I am highly allergic to real flowers (to the point that I get hives.) So real were not an option for me. I had my silk bouquet made by a professional and it is still beautiful today. I also did the bridesmaids bouquets myself it was a lot of fun and they came out beautifully!

Check out this site, this woman does incredible work and you can't even tell they are silk!! (She is reasonable too!!)

Good luck!
Reply:A lot of people use silk flowers....my dad did in his wedding a month ago and now my flowers are sitting on my coffee table in a vase and I've had a lot of compliments on them.
Reply:I just don't understand the draw to silk flowers. They're not much cheaper than real flowers, and if you are thinking of ones that look exactly like the real thing, you will be paying more.

Granted, I live in a city that has a wholesale flower district, so I can buy nice flowers at a low price anytime, but if you don't live near anything like this, just buy a bunch a flowers at Trader Joe's or some other supermarket and make your own bouquet.
Reply:Sure they are fine. If you are crafty and select natural looking flowers it will be just fine.

Silk flowers sometimes can be just as expensive, if not more, as fresh flowers. If you are trying to cut back on costs, consider getting your flowers wholesale or in Walmart and arrange them the night before.

Good luck
Reply:I am sure that they will look fine. The people attending the wedding will not be focused on the flowers that you are holding, instead they will be looking at you and how wonderful you look on your wedding day. I say go for it. Maybe add ribbon (colors fitting in with your dress / bridesmaids dresses) around the stems so that it doesn't look as fake. Hope everything goes well! Good luck!

Reply:In my opinion, fresh flowers are much nicer but you don't always have to go overboard with the price. One way to keep the cost down is to get the flowers yourself and make your own bouquet. There are websites that can help you make your own bouquet. You can go to AC Moore's website at www.acmoore.com and they have instructions on how to create your own bouquet, corsages and boutonneirres (sp?). That's what I did with my wedding and our flowers turned out really nice and we spent under $200, including all the flowers (bouquets, corsages, boutonneirres, centerpieces). I bought my flowers from Safeway and my mother and I did my flowers. But you have to be careful with picking which store to go to (I did quite a bit of checking before I actually purchased the flowers from Safeway).
Reply:REAL Brides only carry REAL flowers when they walk "down the aisle.

You will always regret using silk or faux flowers but you will never regret using real flowers.

It is better to carry one REAL single red or white rose "down the aisle" than a bouquet of faux flowers.

Reply:It's your wedding, if you want silk flowers, go for it, real flowers are soooo over priced, and die within a couple of days, so y not??
Reply:Lots of brides use silk flowers either for budgetary reasons, a desire to keep the bouquet forever, or because of allergies. It's perfectly possible, and not even uncommon.

If your primary concern is money, though, I'd offer up another option to consider: make your own bouquet with real flowers you get at a florist's supply or farmer's market.

When I was married fourteen years ago, I spent a whopping $35 on flowers and all the accessories needed. My MOH and I went to the florist's supply the day before the wedding and picked up a bit of anything that was pretty, long-stemmed, and cheap, some red roses, a reel of florist's tape, some red ribbon, and a card of corsage pins.

My bridesmaids and I made simply sheaf-style bouquets (super quick and easy; just lay down your flowers and tie a ribbon around them), one good friend put together the boutonnieres and the MOG corsage, and we put the bouquets in a bucket of water and the boutonnierres and corsage in the fridge overnight. At the wedding site, we placed a single red rose on every table.

In all, my bare-bones budget took care of: six bouquets, six boutonnierres, one corsage, and table decorations.

Silk or natural, it's your choice. Either is perfectly fine. Just make sure you're doing what will really make you happy.
Reply:I really wanted hydrangeas for my wedding and they are super fragile so my friend made all the brides maids bouquets our of silk flowers. No one even knew they were not real. Mine was real flowers, but after seeing the silk bouquets I wish mine were the silk flowers. They were much cheaper and I didn't thave to worry about them dying and then used the boquets on the cake table for decorations.
Reply:YES you can use silk flowers and make your bouquets look beautiful. You will always be able to cherish it. I am using my mothers bouquets from when she got married. She used silk flowers as well!
