Are you suppose to go up to caught the bouquet if your engaged?

This is happend twice in my family and both times people made comments. Are you suppose to go up to caught the bouquet if your engaged? I am asking because my friend is getting married before me and she made the comment jokingly that I have to caught hers.. cause I'll be the next married. But I didn't know if I was techincally suppose to? Yes, I know it's not the biggest deal in the world but I didn't want take away from any single girls if I actually caught it and I didn't want to disappoint my friend by not trying.

Are you suppose to go up to caught the bouquet if your engaged?
I'm not sure what the proper etiquette is, people can be so fickle and picky that it would be impossible to NOT have someone complaining about somehting at a wedding.

To spare the drama: Go up and try and be into the whole act, but dont actually catch the bouqet yourself.
Reply:go for it you fine only if your married its not ok for you to up but your only engaged so go for it good luck.
Reply:I hear you, my best friend from work is getting married two monthes before mine and im still going to try to catch the bouqet!
Reply:You bet! It's ALL single girls - engaged, otherwise, and even the 80 year olds! It's just fun...
Reply:Go to the bathroom when it comes time to toss the bouquet!! LOL...just kidding...I believe (and have followed myself) that all unmarried people, which includes engaged people, go to the dance floor at that time. Hey..if you want, stand in the back and don't attempt to catch it
Reply:Does it really matter? If you want to try to catch it, go for it. If not, don't. It's just a silly tradition, it doesn't really mean you'll be the next to get married.
Reply:No, because you don't need to catch it. You ARE getting married. Please, give those unengaged gals a shred of hope to hang onto! :-) And don't let your fiance catch any garters, either! (At some weddings the garter catcher has to put the garter on the leg of the bouquet catcher, and you don't want him sliding it up some stranger's leg, do you?)
Reply:You are betrothed. I wouldn't do it.
Reply:NO! Engaged ladies already ARE goign to get married next, so the SINGLE (and nto engaged) ladies are supposed to catch it to see who is goign to get married next (or engaged next actually). The engaged girls kind of count as already taken you know...Also, the guy who catches the garter is supposed to dance w/ the bouquet catcher adn it migh tbe awkward if some engaged chick is dancing with a single guy then...I woudln't care, but some might talk...
Reply:I wouldn't do it. However, step up in front of the other spectators, and see if the bride signals or calls for you to join in. If she does, then yes, go up, otherwise let the single ladies participate.
Reply:I would:

1) Avoid it, and not go up. (Maybe hide in the bathroom or go to the bar and get a drink.)

2) If you do get forced up just don't catch it.
Reply:I've been told any lady who was unmarried (including engaged women) had to go up.
Reply:Since she made a comment (joking or not) then go ahead and get up there. Maybe stand in the back or off to a side so you aren't in the middle of the mess after it's thrown. Just step back and let the single girls fight it out. :-)
Reply:WELL I BELIEVE THAT ANY UNMARRIED WOMEN SO ENGAGED IS STILL UNMARRIED SO IT'S COOL.
Reply:Actually you have more reason than anyone to get up there. The tradition symbolizes passing the torch to the next girl in the "Village" family and friends whose gonna get married. Whoever catches it is just to be unmarried. Its not like your getting up there to get all the attention of the guys in the room. And anyone to tell you diff, well frankly their wrong. But if you don't feel comfortable, no biggie dont do it. Its all about fun, and tradition.
Reply:I believe that it is ok to catch the bouquet even though you're engaged to be married. I did that when I was engaged!!!!

So don't let anyone tell you , you can't. Have a good time, and congratulations on getting engaged.

Can anyone tell me how to french-braid ribbon for a wedding bouquet?

my sister is getting married soon and wants bouquets with french braided handles...help!

Can anyone tell me how to french-braid ribbon for a wedding bouquet?
ok well I will try to describe it but it would be better if I could show you! take the stems of the bouquet and cut about 1 yard of ribbon, at the top of where you want the handle, pull the ribbon around there, and make sure the stems are in the middle of the ribbon. essentially, you will tie a shoe-string knot, twist the ribbons around each other once, then flip the bouquet over and bring the ribbons around and do the same thing to the other side working your way down the bouquet till you are at the bottom of your handle. you can take pearl head corsage pins and insert into the knots to keep them in place and make it prettier, but thats not necessary....like I said, this would be way easier to show you, I worked at a florist 4 two years and I hope this helps....my general experience was that it wasn't really worth the extra trouble cuz your hand covers all of it, but it is pretty!

Bleeding heart plants patio bouquet?

I'M ALSO NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. I HAVE THEM AND THEY'RE GREAT. EASY TO GROW ANYWHERE, MINE ARE ABOUT 3FT. TALL. I HAVE THEM IN SHADE AND SUN. BE AWARE THAT THEY DO FADE AWAY LIKE TULIPS AFTER BLOOMING SO DON'T PLAN TO SEE FOLIAGE ALL SUMMER IN A POT OR GROUND. I MULCHED THEM FOR THE WINTER. THEY WILL COME BACK EVERY YEAR AND THE FLOWERS MAKE A BEAUTIFUL BOUQUET RAIN OR SHINE.

THANKS FOR THE POINTS! Report Abuse

Reply:not sure of your question? Early in Spring, when the plant looks nice, it might work...but bleeding hearts are perennials and do better in the ground...or so I've found. they also will "split" if they're in the ground and start new plants. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure if Orchids can be preserved.

So who's going to send themselves a big bouquet of flowers and chocolates to work on Thursday?

I do that every year just to make everyone jealous of course. Please don't tell my co-workers.

How to have a different bouquet and garter ceremony?

i'm bored of the usual throwing of the bouquet and garter during the wedding ceremony... i need some of your ideas so i can make the part more enjoyable... i need a different approach...

How to have a different bouquet and garter ceremony?
How about presenting the bouquet to someone special at your wedding reception...Your grandma, your best friend for helping make your day special etc.

A friend of mine presented her bouquet to her aunt who was there that just had overcome cancer and was doing well. It was a tearful memorable moment.
Reply:we did a scavnger hunt for our bouquet and garter. it was a blast. everyone thought it was great
Reply:Although many couples are now opting to skip these traditions, the garter removal/toss and the bouquet toss are still part of many receptions. So we've come up with a way to keep the tradition while avoiding the feeling that it's being forced... do the tosses at the same time.

This is simply a variation of the traditional procedure. If you're planning on the garter removal, take care of that first. Once that's done, have the emcee ask all the single ladies and gentlemen to come to the dance floor. The ladies should line up on one side of the floor while the guys get together on the opposite side. The bride and groom will stand in the middle of the floor holding each other's left (or right) hand with the bride facing the guys and the groom facing the girls. The DJ plays upbeat background music as the emcee gets everyone ready for the tosses. On the count of three, the bride and groom throw the garter and bouquet at the same time. Provided that the tosses are executed well and the garter/bouquet is not hanging from the chandelier, the lucky catches pose for a picture with the bride and groom.
Reply:I was at a wedding where the bride and groom asked all the married couples to dance with them. Then they asked everyone who had been married a year or less to sit down, then five years or less to sit down, then 10 years or less, etc. until there was only one couple left. They presented the bouquet and garter to the couple married the longest. It was different and nice, no rowdy fights on the floor.
Reply:It is somewhat common in this area to have an auction for them at the dance. You make a little extra money for the honeymoon too.

Anniversary dance: The DJ calls out all couples who have been married for more than five minutes to the dance floor. Then he starts eliminating people by asking only those who have been married for one year, then five years, then ten years, and so forth until only one couple remains. The B%26amp;G then come out on the dancefloor and present the couple with the bride's bouquet. Maybe give the garter to the youngest couple.

All the single woman had to pass the salt shaker while music played in the background. When the music stopped, whoever was holding the saltshaker got to keep the bouquet. You could do the same with the garter, the men and the pepper shaker!

Staying with the musical salt shaker theme, you can do it at the reception, at every table, first just for the ladies. Whoever is left holding the salt shaker gets to take home the centerpiece. The man who is left with the pepper shaker has to bring drinks from the bar for every woman at the table! Well, you get the gist...

Any good flower bouquet ideas?

My friend is getting hip surgery and I would really like to send her flowers to the hospital. The thing is, she's kind of goth and I'd love to send her something a little more her style than just a cutesey little bouquet. However, I don't want it to be too "deathly" in a hospital setting. Does anyone have any ideas for a classy yet gothy bouquet? Please keep ideas to stuff that one would normally find in a floral shop. Thanks in advance!!

Any good flower bouquet ideas?
Oooh...that's a tough one.

I've found roses at the grocery store that were such a dark shade of red, they were almost black. They looked great, but that also meant they weren't that healthy and they didn't last too long.

I'd suggest purple orchids, but those can by pricey, and they're also rather delicate flowers that can die quickly if they aren't cared for.

You might be best off with some kind of potted plant arrangement. It wont die as quickly as cut flowers, and you might be able to get a nice arrangement to suit the occasion. See if they still have any Halloween pots in the back.
Reply:A decent florist should be able to create the "gothy" arrangement using ordinary flowers. Ikebana style comes to my mind. Take a look at the sites below.

What flower(s) were or will be in your bouquet?

Just wondering what flower(s) you are having or had in your wedding bouquet.

Did you coordinate those colors with your wedding gown and/or bridesmaids dresses?

What flower(s) were or will be in your bouquet?
our colours were black white and silver, the flowers were all white gerber daisys. The bridesmaids had 5 each and I had 7 (so mine was fuller) They were all white. the girls had black dresses. we matched the bouquets with the dresses by tying them up with black and white ribbon. They were really very simple but very elegant,
Reply:My bouquet had a big mix of flowers, and in the colors of the bridesmaid dresses - who wore a print with little flowers of lilac, pink, yellow, and light teal leaves. So I had a handtied bouquet of flowers in all the three colors, some white too, along with greenery - some roses, an orchid, a stargazer lily, mums, carnations, alstromeria, baby's breath, etc. It was a large bouquet. The bridesmaids had smaller versions of my bouquet.
Reply:My ideal bouquet would be a combination of roses, peonies and ranunculus. I just love the looks of the flowers, especially in soft pinks. (Wouldn't necessarily use pink for a wedding color though.)

However, since that will mostly likely be out of any budget that I may have (I'm not planning the wedding quite yet), I will probably go for all roses, in a middle to deep red.

My personal choice for wedding colors would be red and silver.
Reply:I had roses, off-white, like pink and peach with little white flowers, don't know their name, but the florist put little pearls on the middle of those flowers (not to many of them) with a touch of greenery under the bouquet (just to make them pop).

My bridesmaid's flowers where the same, expect they didn't have the extra white flowers and their bouquets were smaller. Their dresses were chocolate brown and my dress was off-white, everyone coordinated very nicely.
Reply:--I had all roses w/ a little bit of greenery mixed in the bouquet, and they were tightly bound at the stems.

--My wedding colors were burgundy and white, so the bouquet was half and half (5 burgundy/ 5 white). The flowers were tightly bound at the stems with a burgundy ribbon. My dress was white and it had a burgundy sash around the waist.

--The bouquets for my bridesmaids were the same color as my bouquet, but it had less flowers (3 burgundy/ 3 white). Their dresses were burgundy.

--The arrangements came out extremely well, and they looked good in the photos.

--Hope that helps!
Reply:My bridesmaids are wearing a dark wine color, and my dress is ivory and gold. my bouquet will have cream colored calla lilies and roses and dark red mini roses, the bridesmaids will have the same except without the red roses. My fiance will have a cream colored calla and the groomsmen will have the cream roses.
Reply:My dress is ivory. My flowers will be ivory, green, and a dark calla that looks brown. My colors are hunter, with chocolate and ivory accents. The bridesmaids will have white dahlias and white tulips with italian ruskus greenery.

Here are pictures of flowers I am using:

Green zinnia (Zinnia-dahlia flower-looks like dahlia in bridesmaid bouquets):

Vendela ivory rose:

Naomi calla lily:

Kermit button pom pom mums (Scroll down) Flower girl will have these mums:

http://www.southernliving.com/southern/g...

Centerpieces will be ivory roses, chocolate artichokes, and green hydrangeas, with limes and cut limes.
Reply:My bouquet will be charlotte red roses with crystals. Girls bouquets are white roses with stephanotis and crystals in the center of the stephanotis. My dress is diamond white, girls are wearing black, some have two tone black and white dresses. I wanted a black and white wedding and I just love red with it. So classic.
Reply:I am having white oriental lilies and white lisianthus'. My bridesmaids are having the same just a smaller arrangement.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/all-flowers...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/68222591@N0...

Didn't really try to coordinate with dresses, I just wanted white. I think they are going to look gorgeous together!
Reply:Mine was simple, but elegant. I had large white lilies with a few yellow roses, no filler flowers or greenery. My MoH had yellow lilies with white roses. My MoH didn't wear a traditional bridesmaid dress--she had a black, cream and light gray dress, which looked great with the yellow and white flowers.
Reply:We used mini calla lillies, roses, and wax flowers.

My bouquet was white

My maid of honor had red roses, pink wax flowers and white callas

All other bridesmaids' bouquets were red with the same flowers

They all wore burgundy color dresses so yes, I did coordinate.
Reply:my dress will be gold hopefully (still looking) and my bridesmaids will be ina teracotta/orange/toffee type colour (also still looking) i am hoping for roses (def yellow and maybe some white) but im not sure how that will look against the dresses. dont 'co-ordinate' if you dont want to but dont colour clash either

or maybe sunflowers :)
Reply:For my bouquet I had Soft Pink, Champagne and White Roses with Stephanotis. My bridesmaids, who wore pink gowns, had shades of pink gerbera daisies. It all worked very well together. I really loved how the daisies looked - plus, they were much cheaper then doing roses, etc.
Reply:Our colors were blue, brown and cream, so my bouquet consisted of cream roses, lisianthus and had coffee beans surrounding the bottom. My bridesmaids (whose dresses were brown lace with blue underlay) had smaller versions of it.
Reply:i am carrying 5 pink calla lillies with the stems wrapped in silver ribbon, and my girls (who are wearing david bridals azalea pink) will carry either 1 or 3 white calla lillies with the stems wrapped in silver ribbon.
Reply:Deep red and white gerbera daisies, with a little fernery mixed in.

And my flower girls are having assorted

pink and white gerberas.

All tied together with the deep blue/green

that we are using as a main colour.
Reply:I'm having assorted Gerbera daisies, with some plain white and yellow daisies thrown in for a little extra flavor. I don't care if they're not normally thought of as wedding flowers- they're my favorites.
Reply:Personally, I had white roses in my bouquet and my girls had stargazer lillies (their dresses were red) with some white flowers and babysbreath (always a nice touch to any arrangement)
Reply:usually roses maybe some babys breath and some greenery depending on what you like and sometimes the roses will match what the bridesmaids are wearing and somethings there just white
Reply:I'm getting married on the same day as you, I'm using burnt orange hydrangeas surrounding chocolate colored roses
Reply:Cali Lily's, hydrangeas, rose, and sweet peas

my bouquet was all white with little greenery
Reply:Mostly orchids. I want it to look like this (we're having a Hawaiian styled wedding): http://www.flickr.com/photos/24495304@N0...
Reply:Gerbera daisies. White to go with my gown. My birdesmaids are in clover green, so their dresses and the flowers so go nicely!
Reply:Roses. I'm thinking of yellow roses because they are my favorite color but it really all depends on the season I decide to get married in.
Reply:I'm having lilies and carnations in mine and my bridesmaids will have the same!
Reply:I didn't marry yet.

I just bought my boyfriend a gold rose and wrapped it with a gold love letter written by me like a bouquet?

and put a dozen ferrero rocher chocolates in the bouquet ... Would a guy like a gift like that? or is too feminine

How Did The Tradition Start Of The Bride Throwing The Bouquet To The Single Women?

I used to be a wedding planner, and this question is always being asked on occasions like this. This was a tradition that started in the late 1900's, in the southern part of the world, i don't know exactly where cause the book didn't say so, they just say that the bride throws the bouquet as a symbol of saying goodbye to being single and also to embrace the new life as a married woman. And single women are supposed to catch it, so they can have the same fate ( to get married...hopefully) as the bride.

How Did The Tradition Start Of The Bride Throwing The Bouquet To The Single Women?
I don't know but I wish it would stop!!! Corralling the single women at a wedding is kind of like putting lemon juice in a paper cut. :-)
Reply:I have no clue how it started just that it took up speed and everyone started doing it.

I always thought this was a degrading act. I have gone to a few weddings and I never stand anyway near that thing...I find it rude. I'm gonna be married in 3 months and a week and I won't be doing it at my wedding.

Is there a spray or something that can preserve a bouquet of flowers? i dont want to press it. just dry out...

Is there a spray or something that can preserve a bouquet of flowers? i dont want to press it. just dry out...
Craft shops have a silicone beads you nuke it with , I use heavy duty spray starch to keep them longer
Reply:My friend mixes a solution of 1 part bleach with 4 parts water and sets the flowers in it then put it in the dark for a week. I saw the hydrengas and they appeared to be perfectly dried and the colors remained intact.

Here is a sight I found that suggests using sand, upside down hanging, silica gel microwaving and glycerin.

I am getting married and need an alternative to throwing the bouquet.?

all of my friends are married and there will be very little unmarried girls there. does anyone have ideas on an alternative for throwing the bouquet? please help!!!

I am getting married and need an alternative to throwing the bouquet.?
For some reason, that whole bouquet/garter toss thing annoys me. So I took my bouquet apart and gave individual flowers to all my single girlfriends, and we didn't do a garter toss at all. A few people asked about it, but I don't think most people cared.

I really like the idea of giving the bouquet to the couple who's been married the longest. I wish I'd known about that for my wedding!
Reply:At my husbands cousins wedding instead of bouquet and garter they had all married couples stand. Then as a tribute to the married people instead of the single people they said everyone whos been married under 5 years sit down. everyone clapped and they went on. they asked 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 36, 37, and finally got to 38 years. The couple who had been married the longest had a private dance and then was honored with a bottle of nice wine
Reply:Good since more and more people are skipping the old traditions like the garter throw which are now meaningless since the old meaning meant the bride was a virgin. You dont have to worry about what to do in place of throwing the bouquet. Just skip it. OR hand it to the unmarried friend you wish to give it to. Its always a chaotic time when the bouquet gets thrown anyway so your wedding will be much more elegant without that part. Best wishes
Reply:Hi. I was going to suggest exactly what "Samantha M" said. I have seen this done at weddings and it's really nice.

Eventually, the couple that has been married the longest will remain on the dance floor.....then, you can go over to the lady and hand her your "toss" bouquet. It's very nice and everyone always likes this. I have seen this done at a number of weddings.
Reply:There is a very charming tradition that not too many people know about---They are called WEDDING CHARMS..........

6-8 Sterling silver charms are attached to beautiful 1/8 inch satin ribbon approximately 12 inches long.

The charms are hidden between 2 layers of a special cake made for this----the women of the wedding party then pull on the ribbons and the charms all have different meanings.

Money bag: Financial Security

Heart: Your love is a true love.

Picture Frame:Happy Family

You get what I mean?

go to www.weddingcakecharms.com

I think this is much better than the bouquet. You can do this whether or not your wedding party is married or single----very young or more mature..........You can get as many charms as you like.........AND even the groomsmen can participate.

Congrats %26amp; Best Wishes.
Reply:in very old England traditions they would "throw the coins" where the groom wishing to have everyone share in his happiness would throw money.

I like the idea of giving a gift to the longest married couple at my wedding that would have been a couple that made 60 years.

While their are traditions that are being laid aside you should research what the deeper meanings were before you cut to much out.

At my sisters wedding we had just lost our mother 4 months before. so we had a corner set up for her and after the wedding I took her flowers and laid them on mama's grave.

Taking photos so my sister could always have a momento of the moment.

ps I was a virgin at my wedding, not every woman feels she needs to share her body with just anyone. (for a comment above)
Reply:When I threw the bouquet at my wedding, I had the DJ invite all the women, married or single. Catching the bouquet would be a sign of good luck for the following year.

Kinda cheesy, but I did want to throw the bouquet at my wedding.
Reply:Give your bouquet to the couple who has been married the longest.

Alternatively, give your bouquet to the oldest relative.
Reply:I like the idea Samantha M said. I was going to post that but she beat me to it =] Also I've heard of people making little cakes and putting a ring inside one of them and whomever finds the ring gets a prize.
Reply:im not sure what ethnicity or religion you are but one hispanic tradition is to set the bouquet at the feet of a virgin mary statue as a gift for the blessing of love.
Reply:well, at my cousins wedding, she threw a little bride beanie baby for the kids, and the groom threw a little groom beanie baby for the kids.....that was a cute idea...i didn't catch the beanie baby though.
Reply:I plan to give it to my mother and her and my dad have a honor dance for them secne there wedding anaversary is 8 days after my wedding date!
Reply:Check out the Anniversary dance - a lot of people have started doing it at their weddings.
Reply:Give it to your mom, or a grandmother.
Reply:Our family tradition is to take our wedding bouquets to the graves of someone we love and miss.

peonies are definitely something you wanna order now to try and actually get for an August wedding. And prepare for a back-up in case the wholesaler doesn't come thru for you.

edit:

they are def. out of season in the US by August and if you can get them you would have to go through a good wholesaler who will likely charge an arm and a leg.

dont know how much they would be off season, but said sometimes prices of flowers can go up 2-3x or more when they aren't in season locally.

Good luck!

Calla lily bouquet how do I make fresh cut lillies stand up and open in a vase?

once you have the calla lilies home you'll need wire to make them stand tall in the vase. first decide how tall you want the flower to stand, next cut wires about 2 inches shorter than that. then make a fresh cut at the end of the stem. you'll notice the stem of the lily is hollow. carefully push the wire up through the stem and try to feel it stick in the bottom of the flower. it's as easy as that . the flower will open when it's ready and not a minute sooner.

Calla lily bouquet how do I make fresh cut lillies stand up and open in a vase?
Callas will last in water for weeks if you keep the end of the stem trimmed every few days or when it becomes mushy. The stems are easily pliable and can be hand shaped to the desired curve or straightness.

How much does a typical rose bouquet cost?

During this time of year? $60 for a dozen--minimum! On a normal day, $24. I used to work in a floral shop. When it got close to V-day, our roses went from $2/each to $5/each!!

For your wallet's sake, try a different flower like tulips or daisies. Or, just buy one rose!

Would a calla lilly bouquet or a white rose bouquet be cheapest?

Both ideas are very beautiful!

Different flowers (roses included) do well at different times of the year since they naturally grow at different times of the year. The pricing of those flowers will go up during the time when they are not as abundant.

Out of it's natural season, growers will use greenhouses to "force" blooms. While not different from those grown in a natural environment, they often don't last as long or hold up as well.

Check with a couple of florists. What time of year is the wedding? What types of flowers are readily available in that season? Choosing a flower of the season will mean a lower cost.

Would a calla lilly bouquet or a white rose bouquet be cheapest?
depends on florist, i would go for the roses
Reply:I think calla lilly cause they are bigger you need less of them but something to consider is even white carnations they are the cheapest and cause they are so big and full you only need a dozen or so for it to look nice.Check this site out this is what i used for my wedding flowers so easy and great priced!!
Reply:in my hometown in indiana they are about the same price with the lilly a few dollars more per stem.

i am not a fan of calla lillies myself. i dont think they look that romantic to me. i totally love roses in all colors and styles.

check out a rose book at your local flower shop and you would be surprised (even in white) the different shades available and different types of roses.
Reply:roses.....definitely.
Reply:It depends on the florist. Sometimes a bouquet which seems Pricey will cost MUCH less if purchased online or at a costco . Some costco stores even have in house florists who will design bouquets for you but you have to ask this isn't a service that they really advertise... also you can order a white rose bouquet online at costco... Again it really depends on the florist... call around...
Reply:Just pick some wild flowers and put a bow round them.

Cheap as chips
Reply:i think roses would be cheapers
Reply:Calla lillies are expensive, but gorgeous. I think roses would be cheaper. But ask the florist.
Reply:Calla Lilly, I asked my florist about a White Rose bouqet with around 30 roses she said if you want it cheaper take out the many roses and put in Lillies and thats what ive done.

If i had, had the Rose Bouqet it would have been around £70.00 but its now gone down to £40.00!!! Big difference
Reply:white roses - lillies are for funerals
Reply:Regardless of the price, .. cala lillies are so passe! sorry!
Reply:Why do you want cheap??

If you have someone you want to spend flowers on, then push the boat out a bit.

Personally I would go for the white roses. Every one likes roses.

Lilies to me are for funerals. Sorry.

Did anyone order a silk bouquet off the internet, and if so describe what and where you got one?

I am afraid to order, but will if others had a good experience.

Did anyone order a silk bouquet off the internet, and if so describe what and where you got one?
I didn't order my bouquets from this place because a family member made them, however I did order the guys boutonieres and the coursages, and they were really nice.

Also, they have excellent customer service. I was able to speak with her on the phone, and she made it exactly the way I wanted it. She wanted me to send her samples of the colors I was using in the wedding so she could make sure she used the right color flowers. They were also shipped in a timely fashion.
Reply:My sister and I both ordered our flowers from budgetmindedbrides.com We are both very happy with the way our flowers turned out. There are many different ideas to choose from and she has package deals. Many of the bouquets coordinate with maids bouquets, boutonierres, and corsages. She has a ton of different flowers you can choose from also. The owner was in constant contact via email with us. She notified us when she received the order, when she purchased the flowers and was beginning to arrage them. When she finished she sent pictures in the email to see if we liked them and offered to change anything prior to sending them out. The packaging was great, nothing got smashed or anything. And she was such a nice lady!! I was also able to order loose flowers from her so that I could make my own pew bows, altar arrangements, and cake decorations. I would recommend her to anyone!!
Reply:I feel bad but I have not oredered one....yet. I am either ordering mine from save-on-crafts.com or I will go to Micheals and make one myself. I have seen Micheal's flowers and they actually look really good.
Reply:I have never used a silk bouquet. Actually , fresh flowers might be a fresher way to go with your beautiful wedding

Very easy to make , just in case you want options, here is how to make your own bouquet with fresh flowers. ( $25)

Purchase the flowers of your choice( Costco or Sam's club have a great selection for less than $18 for 24 roses)

Decide the size of your bouquet by looking in a mirror holding the bunch of flowers in your hand.

Take out or add until you have the right bouquet size.

Cut the stems to your desired lenght.

Use green floral tape( buy it at Michael's or any craft store for $1) to wrap 3 stems at a time. ( creating mini bouquets)

Once you have all the minis , arrange them together and tape them with green tape.

cover the whole leght of the bouquet with a piece of fabric - you theme color or white - in 3 easy steps:

1- place bouquet in center of fabric

2- bring bottom part up and wrap the right side to the left and the left to the right.

3- pin it with pearl pins ( craft store $3) or glue

It looks beautiful, fresh professionally made . Highly recommended instead of silk ( silk is too 1980's)

What color bouquet with red dress?

With a red wedding dress, and the rest of the colors are white black and gold. The bridesmaids will probably wear black and white. Maybe.

I do not want white or ivory flowers, nor gold. And other suggestions?

What color bouquet with red dress?
You could go for an alternative bouquet, like one that is all just green plants. Or crystal bouquets, which are amazingly beautiful (a bit on the price-y side, depending on your price-range).

Otherwise, get a black bouquet!
Reply:Just wanted to point out that yellow roses represent friendship and platonic love. If you like the way they look, then definitely go for it, because these traditions are getting outdated. Just be aware of the symbolism, because many of your guests will know that yellow roses have that connotation.

What is the reason for the bride to throw her flower bouquet?

it used to be superstition that anyone who got something from the bride would have good fortune in finding a mate (thus who catches it gets married next)

People used to chase the bride and groom to try to take something form her (like pieces of dress etc.) so brides got smart and threw their boquet to distract the people.

also it considered good luck at finding a mate if you stole the brides stockings so people would try to steel them as well, the garter was used to hold up the stockings and brides would throw the garter to distract them as well. thus comes the garter toss.

The luck of the bride also comes in with the someting new, old, borrowed, and blue. the something borrowed is suposed to be something from a bride with a successful marriage so that the luck would be passed on to the new bride.

GodBless!

What is the reason for the bride to throw her flower bouquet?
There's no sense keeping it - at that time of the night, the flowers have pretty much bitten the dust. Whomever catches it will be married next.
Reply:who's the next bride!!!!!!!!!

I need directions for drying a bouquet of roses.?

Hello ~

The main thing to remember when trying to dry any type of plant material is to keep it dry and a way from humidity.

You can do as Melanparise wrote and hang it up using string or ribbon, OR you can do as Savhomer wrote and use a desiccant {drying agent}...

There are several good sights on the web about drying plants and below is a few of them which you might want to check out.

I was once given some Roses from my nieces funeral. I air dried them and then made a wreath.... Then gave that wreath back to my sister

A sad, yet beautiful memento for her lost daughter, which she still has hanging on her wall.

Another thing I also did was that I took a few of those Roses and tried to start them via cuttings..... Sad to say that non of those cuttings did take, but I have succeeded before in starting cuttings from funeral roses -

Two great ideas for those out there that desire some type of memento for a lost loved one!

I am happy that your roses seem to have come to you in a more pleasant way! Enjoy and best wishes!!

I need directions for drying a bouquet of roses.?
tie their stems together with some pretty ribbon and hang upside down on a nail or hook sticking out of your wall. It looks lovely and I even decorate my bedroom this way. Then I take old picture frames (just the frame, no glass or back piece of cardboard) and attatch that to the wall around it. So it litterally looks like a 3-d picture right on your wall. :)

Reply:White flowers will soak up food color from the water they are in. You should rough up the end of the stems so they will absorb water more quickly.
Reply:cover them with salt. like alot of salt, its how you mummify a person, so i am sure it would dry out flowers.

How do you define a Bouquet Hotel?

If you do mean "boutique hotel" then they do cater to a smaller crowd. Also, they tend to have what I'd call "posh" even Night Club-like decor in the rooms, lobby and the restaurant. Expect at least one swatch of velvet somewhere in the hotel experience, and it'll probably be purple. Lots of unique designs, luxury and artsy stuff.

Some popular Boutique Hotels are The W Hotels, The Standard, Kimpton Group and Loews.

How do you define a Bouquet Hotel?
Are you sure you don't mean a "boutique" hotel? A boutique hotel is usually a smaller hotel that is able to cater more to its guests; the ratio of personnel to guests allows for more individual attention to the guests.

I need flowers with the color turquoise, do you have any bouquet ideas?

My wedding is June 14th, and i am using the color "pool" which is like turquoise but a lil lighter, I need flowers and favors in this color can you help me

I need flowers with the color turquoise, do you have any bouquet ideas?
You'll need to have this conversation with your florist to see what's available and what you're willing to pay. You can get dendrobium orchids dyed, for example, but then your price starts going up.

Here's a link with some blue flowers: http://www.fiftyflowers.com/flowers/Wedd...

Some alternatives to think about, however, are having a white bouquet with cool, fresh greens incorporated and have your bouquet wrapped in a pool-colored ribbon or fabric; accent with a brooch.

Although, if you have to have the pool-colored flowers, they do make floral spray paints. Cans aren't very expensive, so you may want to pick one up and expriment on some white blooms to decide if that's the route you want to go.
Reply:You can have a bouquet that contains light blue hydrangeas, blue delphiniums and white roses tied with turquoise ribbon. And then for wedding favors there are beautiful turquoise wedding favor boxes that you can fill with whatever you desire. You can see an example here.

http://www.2heartsweddingfavors.com/site...
Reply:You could have carnations tip in any color you like, take to a florist,
Reply:hi, i love turquoise and orange! why not use gerbera daisies as your main flower and use mums, carnations, lilies of the valley, lilacs with them? the gerbera daisies come in beautiful colors including orange! lol i know you are saying turqouise flowers but you might want to have something to add a bit of a splash! mums and carnations are relatively cheap and you can easily tint them any color you want just by adding the color to their water!

favors, i don't like favors, but if you have to have them then make them edible! you could have nice big clear glass bowls on the tables filled with werthers! i say werthers because they are in a gold foil and sparkle so nicely when the light hits them. put a pretty organza bag at each place setting and your guests can help themselves! personally i think its a much better idea to give a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of favors, but thats just me!

i think your color is really beautiful and i hope your wedding is a very happy one!
Reply:To be honest the only flowers I have seen in that color have been carnations that have been died. I suggest using Calla Lilies. They are elegant and you can use a pretty ribbon in your color to accent it. Same with the favors. If you can't find what you are looking for white and accent in your color.
Reply:I am doing the Tiffany' s themed wedding too. I am just using very light pink roses for the centerpieces and bouquets because I couldnt find any matching flowers and i didnt want to dye the flowers. White roses looks good as well, and cherry blossoms too. Good Luck
Reply:I WOULD SUGGEST A NICE LITTLE POKEMON GREEN OR A FLOWER OR A LASAGNA BUT BE CAREFUL CUZZ MY CAT ATE MY LASAGNA , I LIKED SPIDERMAn 2 BETTER THAN SPIDERMAN 1 BUT 3 WAS COOL CUZZ THERE WAS A SKY BATTLE AGAINST THE BAD GUY I ONCE FOUGHT A BAD GUY WITH MY WEB POWERS AND I DIED JUST KIDDUNG I DIDNT DIE BUT HE GOT HURT AND CRIED FOR 10 MINUTES SO I GAVE HIM A POPSICLE

How can I make my own Bouquet?

I dont want to spend a bunch of money on my bouquet because I am just doing a very very small thing with 9 guests. I DO want fresh pink flowers, a small bouquet, I just dont know HOW to make the bouquet. Any suggestions on how to assemble it? Other than just rolling it together with some ribbon? Any web tutorials or instructions or what to buy would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

How can I make my own Bouquet?
Here are instructions for various types of bouquets... the first one has a video as well as instructions for the various types of bouquets. The video sputters at the beginning, just hang in there, it finally comes on!

Reply:Your library may have a DVD or video on flower arrangement (mine does, anyway.) Or you could call local community colleges to see if they have a class. Congratulations!
Reply:go to any craft store and they can set you up
Reply:Any bunch of at least 20 heads will make a nice bouquet. The Martha Stewart web site might have a tutorial - www.marthastewart.com

Basically though, for a very simple, classic bouquet, cut the stems to all the same length - approx. 10 - 12" long. Using floral tape, secure the stems together in a bunch. Then, cut 2 yards of your fav. ribbon and wrap around the stems.

Buy some inexpensive ribbon of the same size to experiment with :-)
Reply:Since you're having a very small wedding I think that it would be better for you to get a bouquet at a shop because they have a larger variety of choices and kno how to keep it fresh for the wedding. I think you could probably find a decently priced shop so you're not spending a fortune. If you make your own bouquet there's a bigger chance of something going wrong. Either way I hope you have a wonderful wedding.
Reply:About.com has a video tutorial on how to make a fresh bouquet, I'm making my own too so this was very helpful. Just enter "how make wedding bouquet" on the search part. Good luck and congratulations!
Reply:I think Proud's DIY sites cover the how to of it.

I would suggest going to the craft store and buying some fake flowers that are as close to the fresh flowers that you will be using the day of. If you are using fresh pink roses go buy some fake pink roses. They don't have to be good fakes as long as they are close at least in shape to what you will be using.

Then you can take them home and try shapes and sizes over and over again until you are satisfied and practice as many times as you want until the big day. Save the mockup and use it as a template to copy that morning when you go buy your fresh flowers.

You will know without spending money on many fresh practice flowers if you need a florist or not. If nothing else it will come in handy for the rehersal! :)
Reply:pick or buy wild flowers cut at different lengths so they get taller through the middle. you could tie with raffia... my personal fav

I was at a wedding 6 months ago and I caught the bouquet! Now what do I do with it?

I still have the bouquet which is made up of 24 white roses. The roses have died, of course, but I have managed to keep the leaves on still. I have never caught the bouquet, so i don't know if it is ok to throw out or should I keep it. What is the correct etiquette? please help.

I was at a wedding 6 months ago and I caught the bouquet! Now what do I do with it?
Do whatever YOU want to do with it. Throw it away or preserve it forever! OR take a digital picture of it then throw it away!
Reply:Burn it before the curse comes true! Some idiot who will ruin your life may get down on one knee to give you jewelry! AHHHHHH!
Reply:now you have to hurry up and look for a b/f bcause there is a tale that said that if the future bride doesnt find a groom in 8 months there will be no marriage for this person not ever again so now you have 2 months for look for a nice guy otherwise you gonna be unmarried the rest of your life.
Reply:you should have thrown it away a long time ago...
Reply:If you are close to the bride, keep it as a momento, if not, it's okay to disgard it. The tradition states that whoever catches the bouquet is the next to get married, it says nothing about keeping that bouquet until you do.
Reply:Throw it away or give it back to the bride on the first anniversary with fresh roses. You should have been married by now, you did catch the bouquet.
Reply:You can throw it away. If you want a memory of it take a pic of it and get rid of it.
Reply:Find a way to use the dried roses, maybe for a wreath or a basket.. It is a nice way to remember the bride who threw you this bit of good luck. Maybe use other elements of the wedding in the arrangement, like the color of the bridesmaid dresses, or some ribbons from the flowers, or some lace that looks like the brides gown, you get the idea.Take a picture of the results, and send a copy to the bride on a 6-month or 1 year anniversary. Or 2- year, since there are 24 roses.

Somewhere on line somebody knows how to preserve dried roses.

Go visit a craft store, or a gift shop for ideas on how to arrange them.

I do not know if there is bad luck in giving the roses back to the bride, you might want to check on it, it would be a thoughtful anniversary gift to give her an arrangement with her roses in it.
Reply:Just throw it out, i caught one when i was 12 and lost it shortly after wards...oh wait I'm still not married...aaahhhhhhhh...keep it dont throw it out.

:-)
Reply:If you don't want the bouquet, then give it back to the bride. She might want it back, and since you have taken such good care of preserving the flowers, it would make a nice gift.
Reply:U should probably throw it out, unless u press the flowers to keep as a momento. It's a cute tradition, but it really doesn't mean anything........plus flowers are organisms, and dead organisms usually start to stink after awhile.
Reply:I personally would keep it, if the flowers dried nice enough for you to display. If not, it is ok to trash it.
Reply:could be the new pick up line for you...

"i caught the boquet, whats your name"
Reply:i suppose it was just a symbolism that applies to the moment you caught the bouquet. i would juz throw the bouquet away once the flowers have died.
Reply:hurry up and strip down to nothing

then wait till some random stranger comes up...have flower right "there'

ask him if he would like to pluck it...

then bop him with a hammer and rip off his prick... ^_^

I was told not to put my bridal bouquet with food in the refrigerator?

Someone told me not to put my bridal bouquet in the refrigerator with food before the wedding. Is that true? If so do you have any sugestions on how to keep it cool and looking good before the ceremony?

I was told not to put my bridal bouquet with food in the refrigerator?
There are 2 reasons your florist doesn't want your bouquet in the fridge.

The first reason is that the temperature in your fridge is not the same as what the cooler at the flower shop is set at. Your fridge at home is too cold for flower storage. You risk literally FREEZING your expensive bouquet. I have seen it happen too many times.

Secondly, fruits and veggies give off a gas called Ethylene. It is extremely damaging to certain cut flowers.

Please listen to your florist on this one, they just want your bouquet to be in top condition for your special day. Room temperature would be better for the flowers than your fridge. Just make sure they are properly hydrated.
Reply:I say have it kept in a cooler at the flower place and then in an ice chest with nothing in it put your bouquet and ice.
Reply:No, you don't want to put it with food that can cause your flowers to smell like something they are not. You can however still put them in the frig. First you would want to wrap them in plastic, and then put them on a shelf away from strong smelling foods like onions. Put a box of baking powder in beside them as this will absorb any smells that are excapeing in your frig. Hope this helps and Congrats on your up coming wedding!
Reply:Put it in a cooler to keep it cold. If you put it with food in your fridge it can pick up smells from the fridge.

Who would want a bridal bouquet smelling like fish, or something else nasty from the fridge?
Reply:The petals can pick up and hold onto any odors that might be lurking in your refrigerator. Also the temp in your fridge does not equal the same temp that was at your florist.

This is why I recommend to have a silk bouquet copy of your original for two reasons. One, you can have a spare just in case your real one is ruined. Two, you have flowers that will last a lifetime.
Reply:The bacteria in the food can ruin the flowers and the food. It is a lose-lose situation. I would see if you can pick it up that morning, or if you live in the north leave it in the garage overnight and get it before 6 am and put it in the basement. Both should be cool to keep it looking great.

I am interested in whence did a custom to throw a bouquet of the bride to unmarried girls originate?

The original tradition was to tear off pieces of the brides dress for good fortune. Due to many objections by the brides, they started throwing their flowers to guests instead.

I am interested in whence did a custom to throw a bouquet of the bride to unmarried girls originate?
The practice of the tossing the bridal bouquet is believed to be an outgrowth of an idea that was popular in the 14th century, particularly in early French tradition. It was considered lucky to get a fragment of the bride's clothing. In those days, the bride was treated poorly. Guests would grab at her wedding dress in order to tear off pieces. Although brides continued to believe that they would not be wearing their wedding gowns again, they objected to its wanton destruction. They looked for an alternative and, instead began the custom of throwing personal articles, such as the garter, to the guests.

Can an engaged woman still try to catch the bouquet at a wedding?

Thats an ******** thing to do

Can an engaged woman still try to catch the bouquet at a wedding?
OH well... after reading this I didn't even think about this before and I have been engaged for a year and I have been to about 5 wedding since then and I have been up to catch the bouquet! I didnt' even think about not going. So I guess in my opinion I think it is ok!!! You aren't married until you say "I Do".
Reply:Stay out of it.
Reply:The engaged woman should not try. She is already spoken for and committed. The purpose of the bouquet is to see who will be the next to become engaged or spoken for! For the sake of all in fun, the engaged woman should cheer for her single friends from the sidelines. :)
Reply:Technically, she is still single, but practically - it's not very nice; give someone else a chance.
Reply:of course you can catch the wedding bouquet. who knows if the engagement will lead to marriage.
Reply:Of course, in fact you are saving all of the other girls the embarrassment of having to marry someone they don't know.
Reply:i would catch it what the heck i am not married yet
Reply:Well its really supposed to be for unattached women but I guess if you want to piss your boyfriend off and look as stupid as your question, then sure, go for it. Too bad I can't be there to watch.
Reply:no cause you are "on your way" to the alter. That would be sort of a slap in th face to your fiance and just stupid
Reply:You are already betrothed....spoken for...have a fiance.

This is a a fun ritual for the single ladies.
Reply:Nope. You've already committed yourself to someone, so there is no reason to be posing as a single woman now.
Reply:No
Reply:Technically, she is still single. Plus, it's fun to get out there and (playfully) elbow the other ladies in attempt to get that pretty, sweet smelling bouquet. So why not?! I don't think people need to take it so seriously.
Reply:Certainly. Because it can also just mean good luck, and it's a nice memento to have of the day.

It is not traditionally done I believe- but if she's a close friend or relative I would include her. You'd hate to leave her out!
Reply:yes because she is not married
Reply:Not its only for single women.
Reply:yes. At my best friends wedding i was engaged and she told me to go on out there. Your not married yet. The tradition is to find the next to get married.
Reply:Well yeah I mean it's not like a real thing. Unless you believe that superstition then by all means don't do it. But if it's just for fun then why not. Isn't just to show who is getting married next? You're engaged so it's pretty obvious you will be next so you're not married yet so it doesn't matter. It's just for fun. That's why all the little kids go out there and do it.
Reply:Good question but I would think the answer is no. Your engaged and already have a good chance of being married. The bouquet toss is for the ones who don't have a special guy to hook up with.

I am wanting instructions to make a nappy bouquet.?

I recently went to a baby shower and there was a nappy bouquet made out of cloth nappies, face cloths and socks. If anyone can help with instructions on how to make this it would be greatly appreciated. It was along the lines of diaper cake .. but this was a bouquet of flowers made from the above mentioned items

I am wanting instructions to make a nappy bouquet.?
hi...

i also have some thing similar when my newborn come ..some one gave me..it is so easy just try to buy somepink and white stuff (for girls) ans a smal bucket coverd it with 2 colour plane papers and just rolll nicely all thing individually and bind with rubberband and just palce them in standing postion in bocket first u need to fill bucket with some tissues and just fix all rool material one by one one pink one white and after just cover it with nice transparent sheet....just like bouket rape...and aad some ribons on top of bucket ...jud try may be while trying u'll understand or got some other ideaz...byee..
Reply:I would use the diapers as the "pot" then dowels painted green for the sticks and socks as "flowers" and the other things as leaves or other flowers.

The dispers would be fashioned the same as a diaper cake just rolled up. The socks I would ball up (if it's a girl get the frilly lace socks) and have the top like a tulip, The other stuff if it's a washcloth you can put a rubber band in the middle and put half way up a stick for a leaf. It would all be trial and error for the best look.

Is it still wedding etiquette that the groom pays for the brides bouquet and some of the other flowers?

It's not something commonly done anymore, no. That doesn't mean you can't do it that way, but it's a custom more honored in the breech than the observation.

These days couples are more likely to pool their money to the common goal - with or without contributions from one or both sets of parents - and not worry about who pays for what specifically.

Is it still wedding etiquette that the groom pays for the brides bouquet and some of the other flowers?
Not specifically. The couple should be paying for everything in regard to the wedding themselves. So it's your money pooled together...
Reply:I have never heard of that.
Reply:My fiancee is going to pay for my bouquet because my Dad is going to pay for the party, Its is supposed for him to pay for alcohol, but it all depends on how you want to organize it.
Reply:no, the old customs assumed a bride living with her parents and that they were paying for the wedding. That is just not the case anymore. it is up to the couple to decide between them how the finances will be handled
Reply:Not really. Grooms help pay for as little or as much as they can.
Reply:they more or less share the cost now days.

Why do hotels always use white towels

I need help picking a bouquet(flowers/colors)?

I will be getting married next yr. on Halloween. My dress will be red. I'm looking at types of flowers and colors, I guess i can only do red or white. Unless someone has another idea. I like calla lily, roses, and stefanotis..oh and amayrllis is nice too.

But I'm not Martha Stewart and I'm a total dummy when it comes to planning this stuff. Please help. Any other wedding ideas will help alot.

I need help picking a bouquet(flowers/colors)?
Congratulations on your impending marriage! You will be very surprised to find the wide variety of flowers that could look terrific in your bouquet. Do you want your bridesmaids to carry smaller versions of your bouquet or something very different? I suggest you florist shop and look for flowers that provide a nice contrast to your red gown. A professional florist is trained to be creative, helpful, and work within your budget. Good luck! P.S. Did you ever attend a wedding at which you adored the flowers? Ask the bride where she shopped and she will also find it a compliment.
Reply:I would go with a mixture of reds, yellows, oranges and greens. Since you are wearing red, you would want flowers with just a hint of red in them....

There are calla lillies with red around the edges and the flower itself is more orange or yellow. There are also roses this way. I think steganotis is only white.

But I think the warm colors with the greenery would look great for a fall wedding and when I think of halloween, I think of candy corn, and those are the colors involved.

Good luck, and I hope I helped!
Reply:i wish i could help you more but i am right with you. What i would do is go to a florist (or more the one) and get their professional opinion.
Reply:do the calla lilies...they are elegant and beautiful
Reply:I did a 2-dozen simple red rose bouquet and it was perfect. Don't limit yourself to red/white. You could do red/brown, red/black, red/yellow, red/champagne. A red dress with yellow roses would look nice.

Instead of a Halloween theme, you can do autumn leaves which are red/yellow/orange/brown.

The florist can offer suggestions, just be sure to tell them what your budget is and don't let them talk you into spending more.

For more information and worksheets on flower planning, visit the link below:
Reply:Why the red dress? I would go more traditional with an ivory or white dress. Then you could have deep rust, orange and beige bouquet depicting Holloween colors. Go traditional, as you will end up being much happier than with a red dress on Holloween.
Reply:i love lillies, they are my favorite flower ever. For halloween i would go more orangish because they do have an orange calla lily.

http://www.oberers.com/wedfall5.html

only instead of pink around the stems you could wrap orange or even black i suppose since it's on the holiday.
Reply:Red and orange roses with some greenery. You can do the green hydrangas, red and orange roses too. That would go well with halloween.

BOO!!!

http://www.silkflowersandmore.com/calla-...

This last one may be your best bet. You can order a box of mini callas, or large and then put them all together and tie with a ribbon. This will be cheap and very elegant and good for halloween. Scroll down to the orange, you can add red or brown to make it look really good. You can get airbrushed or solid color.

HOpe this helps.
Reply:yellow would work, and obviously white.

Greenery mixed in - fancy leaves and such would add some colour.
Reply:why not red and black with pearls and babybreath red roses and white callas. very pretty yet stays with your season.
Reply:A good florist should be able to help you, but remember this is a business and their main concern is to make money. Don't have them push a less expensive flower on you. Example:

I would say Roses and they would say Freesia

I would say jasmine they would say sweet pea

Good Luck

Why is a bouquet of ROSES meant to be unlucky on your wedding day?

I heard that you should not use roses as your bouquet on your wedding day as it is unlucky? why is this?

My mum had red roses and her bridesmaids had peach - and my mum and dad have been married now for 30years!

I'm getting married soon and would also like some ideas on what flowers would look beautiful for my bouquet?

Why is a bouquet of ROSES meant to be unlucky on your wedding day?
never heard of this. Most brides carry roses. Red roses are the traditional symbol of love.

http://www.rkdn.org/roses/colors.asp

Here is a page with rose colors and their meanings.
Reply:I've never heard that roses in your bridal bouquet are bad luck. My mom had roses and she and my dad have been married for 45 years!
Reply:I've never heard of this either. We used all roses, been married almost 10 years, so it wasnt unlucky for us either. Interesting question, I'm curious to see what others say about this too.
Reply:I've never heard that particular superstition. Roses are gorgeous. My bouquet was dark red roses and baby's breath...the only thing unlucky that occured on our wedding day, was it rained (but that's supposed to be good luck, if you believe in that sort of thing).

Go with what you like! Superstitions are fun to talk about sometimes, but I wouldn't arrange my life around them. ☺
Reply:I've never heard of that before and my mum also had roses and she is still married
Reply:makes no sense to me. if you like roses us them! I am. many many brides use them, that's why they are the most popular flower!
Reply:Far from being unlucky, roses are absolutely traditional, and have been since at least the mid Victorian era. And as you say, you have the best possible example of how silly a superstition that is because your parents have done just fine. I carried roses on my wedding day, too, and have been blissfully married for fourteen years. My sister-in-law carried roses. She and my brother have been married for over twenty years and the only problems they've had have sprung from the fact that they're both extremely combative people.

In the long run, though, they're still together and they still would choose one another over anyone else and over being alone.

If you like roses, carry roses. Enjoy your roses. The only good reasons not to carry roses would be if you don't want to or you can't afford them.

As for what other flowers would be good, that depends on a lot of different things. How formal is the wedding? What shape is the bouquet going to be? What color(s) will the bridesmaid(s) wear? What time of year is the wedding? How big or small is your flower budget? What flowers do you like? Dislike?

Some flowers work better for one shape of bouquet than another. For instance, gerbera daisies look festive and pretty in a nosegay, but wouldn't work nearly as well in a sheaf or a cascade. Sunflowers can be festive as a single stem, but could look silly in a very formal arrangement.

Some flowers cost more than others. Orchids will always be more expensive than carnations. Also, timing is everything with flowers. Tulips are bountiful in the spring. You can still get them in the dead of winter, but you're going to pay a great deal more for the privelige.

Colors are usually coordinated at a wedding. If the bridesmaids are wearing purple dresses, for instance, you'd probably want to keep the flowers in the pink/blue/purple range, unless you're going for a study in contrast. If your wedding colors are chocolate brown and Tiffany blue, chances are you're not going to want yellow or orange flowers.

If you love roses, you should make sure you have some roses somewhere on your big day. On the other hand, if you detest cala lillies or are desperately allergic to stephanotis, you wouldn't want to have those flowers.

Literally any flower can be beautiful in your bouquet. Just make sure it's flowers that make you smile and don't bust the budget.
Reply:Never heard this. I carried all roses and have been happily married. Maybe my friends should have carried them also, many of them are divorced.
Reply:Roses are a universal symbol of love. I never heard any luck related issues with roses...
Reply:Not sure where you heard that one?

Not a superstition I have come across before.

If you like roses go for it.

I am wanting to pick a flower to put into my bouquet to represent our grandparents that have passed away....?

does anyone know what flower is tradtional used to symbolize rememberance of a loved one? I would use 4 of them (for the 3 grandparents of his and 1 of mine that has passed away) and that flower will not be seen anywhere else in the wedding.

I am wanting to pick a flower to put into my bouquet to represent our grandparents that have passed away....?
CARNATION (PINK) - I'll Never Forget You

CATTAIL - Peace, Prosperity

FORGET ME NOT - True Love, Memories

HYACINTH (PURPLE) - I Am Sorry Please Forgive Me, Sorrow

POPPY (GENERAL) - Eternal Sleep, Oblivion, Imagination

ROSE (DARK CRIMSON) - Mourning

ROSE (TEA) - I'll Remember, Always

ZINNIA (MIXED) - Thinking (or in Memory) Of An Absent Friend

ZINNIA (YELLOW) - Daily Remembrance
Reply:Roses are typically seen at funerals as are lillies.

I would use a flower that was a favorite of the grandparents. Grandfathers might not have a favorite flower but the grandmothers might have.

As an alternative, try to find old pictures of the weddings of your grandparents and choose a flower that grandmother used in her bouquet.

OR...was there a flower that the grandfathers would typically give to the grandmother on special occasions? Like birthday or anniversary?

OR....what flowers did grandmother plant in her garden.

any of these ideas would be personal and bring memories of your grandparents to your mind.
Reply:tuck a few forget me nots into your bouquet - they come in pinks, blues and mauves and are so pretty. what were their favourite flowers and colors? you could add a specific flower to represent each one of them. for example forget me nots have always been my favourite flower, daisies are my cousin's fave, cabbage rose is a fave of my b.f. if they are only appearing in your bouquet then adding them wouldn't cost you too much more!

our daughter had a charm in her bouquet - it was in memory of her father's mum - a lovely lady who absolutely loved horses, so we found a charm to represent her love. our other daughter's bouquet had pink ribbons in it to represent her favourite aunt who had passed. so if you don't particularly want flowers think outside the box, a charm, a ribbon, a tatted hankie, whatever you choose. its a lovely idea and i'm glad to see there is a bride here with such sentimental feelings!

good luck and happy wedding!
Reply:You may want to think about doing something else. Whenever you see your wedding pictures those flowers in your bouquet are going to stand out and be all you focus on. You shouldn't be dwelling on sad things like death on your wedding. Your grandparents wouldn't want that anway. Remember them in a different way like having your grandparents wedding photos displayed at the reception.
Reply:Forget-me-nots

http://johnwmacdonald.com/forgetmenots_J...

Also, rosemary is for remembrance - you can have some tucked into your bouquet, it's very fragrant
Reply:You should try to find out what their favorite flower was. I am using one star gazer lily for my dad. My sister, and I will have one in our bouquets, and my mom will have one in her flowers.
Reply:Everyone I know has used Roses. If you want other roses in the wedding you could use another color to symbolize the grandparents?
Reply:I can't find anything that represents loved ones who have passed away. I would say maybe ask your parents what their favorite flower or color was and use those flowers or colors.
Reply:forget-me-nots? I dont honestly know, but we have those planted to remember our loved ones, and they come in all different colors, they are very pretty and could be paired with just about any color arrangement
Reply:For my grandmother I used the flower she had in her bouquet when she got married.

Zinnia http://www.webyarns.com/zinnia.gif

Twisted willow http://www.martinsdriedflowers.co.uk/sho...

Miniature Rose http://etm.freshegg.com/customModules/ap...

Something to think about: a lot of these flowers are small flowers that come with more than one bloom to a stem, I don't know if that throws off your desire to have one for each grandparent.

I personally love the idea of having 4 strands of twisted willow coming out of your bouquet - it's unique and it's something that won't interfere with whatever color scheme you were going for in your bouquet.

However, if there is a particular flower that makes you think of your grandparents - perhaps a flower that you had placed in an arrangement at their funerals? Also, in many cultures (though not so much here in the US) lilies (especially calla lilies, I think) are symbolic of both beauty and death, and lilies are always lovely in a bouquet.

Does the brides bouquet have to have the same flowers as the wedding flowers or the bridesmaids flowers?

I'm getting married this summer and I am trying to decide what flowers I want...

Does the brides bouquet have to have the same flowers as the wedding flowers or the bridesmaids flowers?
You should have want you want.....and if it is not like the other who cares as long as your are happy. congrats.
Reply:Usually the bridesmaids' bouquet is a smaller version of the bride's.
Reply:Your stress can be too much - don't worry about the color of flowers - do what you want - I saw pics of a wedding wear nothing matched and it looked great together. They let the bridesmaids wear dresses they already had - the dresses fit - no money spent and everyone was comfortable
Reply:there's nothing written in stone on how it should be, but generally the bride has a mixture of flowers some same as the bridesmaids some different to stand out a little.

it's really your choice what you want.
Reply:You can do pretty much whatever you want for flowers. I do recommend that the size of the bouquet not be too big. It looks ridiculous when a petite girl is carrying a huge bouquet.
Reply:Yes, everything must match or else you risk the Old Biddy Wedding Police sweeping in and annuling your marriage right then and there.

Seriously, if you love matching, match away, but there is no rule or even major expectation that everything be identical. Most florists are great getting flowers together in a pleasing form. Personally I liked having my bouquet stand out a little, some of the same colors but in different flowers combined with some of the same flowers but in different colors compared to my bridesmaids. My sister had flowers in her's that didn't match anyone or anything else in the wedding, but they looked lovely with everything else.

Don't sweat the small stuff, hon, and trust me, the flowers are the small stuff.
Reply:You can do what you want - you are the bride.
Reply:I know nothing about flowers, so I just googled wedding flowers, looked at some arrangements, and decided I like roses. A lady at church did my flowers at cost. They were lovely. We went with all roses.
Reply:I didnt have the same flowers becaues it s your day and you should be unique.
Reply:do what ever you want, it is your wedding. Saying that my mother in law to be made all the flower bouquets and she made mine similar to the bridesmaids but a bigger bouquet and a little bit different arrangement of flowers to stand out.
Reply:Who cares!

It's your day

do what you want!!
Reply:No, you can have your bouquet how ever you want it and it doesn't have to match...unless you want it to.

My bouquet is going to match only in color to the rest of the girls in my party. At my friends wedding she had Calla Lillies that were colored and we had average white flowers. It's all up to you and the florist you choose to design flowers that are complementary to you and the style of your wedding.

I hope this helps. Congrats and Good Luck!!!
Reply:No not at all, in fact it should be different. What makes a beautiful bouquet are white roses, a center orchid, some ivy, maybe some color. But make your bouquet very different from the bridesmaids bouquets.
Reply:it sometimes looks better that way; but no, it's not a requirement.
Reply:It doesn't have to be, but if you decide to carry different flowers, they should coordinate with the rest of the wedding party!
