I just want a cheap, but simply beautiful bouquet with either day lilies (i think they are also called asiatic lilies) or roses....any idea approx. how much each cost?
What's typically cheaper in wedding bouquet - day lilies or roses?
Lilies cost more because they're grown from a bulb and produce only one stem per bulb. Roses are grown on a bush and just continually reproduce. I've grown tons of lilies. I love them. You're not going to want day lilies. Day lilies are on a thin stem with a large base of leaves at the bottom %26amp; they bloom %26amp; die within the same day, hence being called a day lily. Asiatics are beautiful and they do last. Also, Oriental lilies are used a lot for weddings.
If I were you, I would go with the lilies because they are much larger and more dramatic, so you only need a couple of them mixed in with other greenery, whereas the roses, you would need more of to fill out the bouquet. Here are a couple using orientals:

Reply:Roses are less expensive than lilies. There probibly about $6 to $8 dollars difference. You could also do a combo of both if your really set on lilies!
Good luck!
Reply:It depends on when you're getting married. You can pretty much count on a bouquet costing anywhere from $100 -200 unless you do them yourself.
If lilies are in season, then they will be cheaper because you will need fewer stems since they are large. Out of season, they will be expensive.
Roses are pretty cheap all year.
Look at this: http://www.growersbox.com/catalog/weddin...
You can order a "wedding in a box" and do all of your flowers yourself for less and they have a rose and Asiatic lily box.
Reply:Roses are usually cheaper because they are in season all year round. Where as lillies are only in season for part of the year. The rest of the year, they are very expensive so I would go with roses.
Reply:Go around to your local floral shops who specialize in weddings. Personally, I'm using fake flowers for mine.
Reply:Probably the lillies if you get them at costco or samsclub. the only downfallis you have to stick with one or two colors unless you want to be up to your eyeballs in flowers!

Remember that each stem has more than one bloom, probably around 3-4 blooms per stem.

But, roses can be used also to make bouteniers and petals for flower girl...so maybe it's better to go with roses. just depends on what you want.
Reply:it probably depends on your location and the time of year.. you need to ask a local florist..
Reply:Everything is greenhouse grown today- so NO seasons.
Plain rose like red or white will be cheaper... if you get into high breeds then it's $$$.
My bouquets was $500.00 for high bred roses (pink and orange- flown in from Holland)- about 3 dz and this include a trial bouquet so I could try it with my dress first. Remember you want good flowers not cheap supermarket things because you don't want them to wilt or open up and fall apart.
Reply:Roses are always more expensive. You need to talk to your local florists.
