What are some tips on how to make a bouquet of flowers live longer?

Change the water and trim the bottom of the stem each day. The previous cut tends to "scar" over, and not allow the water to be taken in. Cut them on an angle so they don't sit flat in the bottom of the vase. Use cold water, preferably distilled water, (tap water contains many harmful chemicals), and warm water will make them bloom faster. Remove any leaves or foliage from the stems, don't allow any of the leaves to be submerged in the water. This causes slime to build in the water and contaminates the water. Depending on what kind of flowers they are, you can add lemon juice and sugar, an aspirin, or a penny to the water.
