What are some tips on how to make a bouquet of flowers live longer?

Change the water and trim the bottom of the stem each day. The previous cut tends to "scar" over, and not allow the water to be taken in. Cut them on an angle so they don't sit flat in the bottom of the vase. Use cold water, preferably distilled water, (tap water contains many harmful chemicals), and warm water will make them bloom faster. Remove any leaves or foliage from the stems, don't allow any of the leaves to be submerged in the water. This causes slime to build in the water and contaminates the water. Depending on what kind of flowers they are, you can add lemon juice and sugar, an aspirin, or a penny to the water.

What are some tips on how to make a bouquet of flowers live longer?
put a few drops of dish washing liquid, such as dawn or joy in the water that you put the flowers in
Reply:put aspirin and ice cubes in the water
Reply:Flower food is good for them. Also changing the water every day.And if you don't have flower food drop in 2 asprens or tylonals. It ttyl works.
Reply:Put aspirin in the water.
Reply:always put an asiprin in the water that is an old trick the my grandmother taught me
Reply:Snip off the ends of the flowers at a 45angle. Add room-temp water w/just a few drops of bleach.
Reply:7up works wonders! It actually petrifies the flower. Just change the 7up regularly and your flowers will retain their shape!

Where do i get artificial ti leaves for a bouquet, at a good price?

Go to Joanne's Fabrics, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels. Most craft stores have a good selection of silk greenery to choose from.

What flowers would be good for a bridal bouquet?
I'm having hydrangea, roses and peonies in white and green for my bouquet. And my bridesmaids are carrying the same with more green and adding antique blue hydrangea.
Reply:I couldn't decide for my bouquet, so I let my bridesmaids pick their favorite flower, they carried a bouquet of that flower, and I carried a mixture of all their flowers. It symbolized how a piece of all of them has been an important part of my life that I'll carry with me always! It was beautiful, a mixture of irises, sunflowers, tulips, daisies, roses, and more!
Reply:Pink peonies, Japanese maple, red Dutch roses...
Reply:Mine was a mixture of Lilies, carnations, and roses with greenery and ribbons dangling off the handle. It was really pretty! Especially the Lilies because they smell sooooo good! But ultimately it'll be up to you and what you like! Hope you have a great life w/ your new hubby to be. (if you're the one getting married that is)
Reply:Daisies and roses
Reply:roses, of course
Reply:calla lilies, stephanatos, orchirds, and pink roses
Reply:lillies and roses! Both are beautiful and look great together!
Reply:Tulips
Reply:My favorite is roses... any color you want and just hand tied with some beautiful ribbon. I love that look... plus roses are very sturdy and last a long time! You can also take your bouquet (after the wedding of course) and turn it upside down to dry in a closet... and the will keep beautifully. I still have mine 2 years later. Just my opinion!
Reply:Virtually any flower - if you like it, use it! Pick your color first - do you want all white? do you want to have your colors in too? Answer those questions first, then decide on what you want. Freesia is a great flower for bouquets - it smells nice without being overpowering and it comes in a variety of colors. Roses, orchids and lillies of any variety are always a traditional choice. Sometimes more important than knowing what you want is knowing what you DON'T want. Go to various websites and get ideas for both categories.

Good Luck
Reply:Roses are the most gorgeous especially in white.
Reply:I Love Calla Lillies, Gerber Daisies, Hydrangeas and the good part is they all come in a wonderful array of colors from pastel to vibrant. Google their images.

Best wishes
Reply:Roses

Calla Lilies

Reply:almost any!

Peonies are pretty popular but still different. Lilies and roses are always good. Just stay away from carnations.
Reply:it all depends on the time of the year
Reply:Pick a sturdy flower, not something delicate like orchids that will droop quickly. I am looking at poppies for my boquet with colored boquet jewels.

A good rule of thumb is to look at the stems. The thicker the stem the more hardy the flower and vice versa.
Reply:my aunt had callalillies (im not sure if thats the spelling)

but they looked really pretty
Reply:Pink lilies.
Reply:yes, i agree, tulips, classic and elegant!

i need a picture of the flower bouquet used in the parent trap movie. help please. thank you.

Where can i find a picture of the flower bouquet used in the newest parent trap movie?
possibly eBay, search "parent trap movie prop" or w.e

or, if you have the capability, put the DVD in your laptop,

play the part where the flowers are, press pause, then press "print screen" (on the keyboard)

open Paint, or another picture editing software, Paste, Save,

and there you have it.
Reply:It may be out there but the odds seem low. If you want a picture fast you can put the dvd in a pc with a dvd drive and take a snapshot from there. Most software lets you and if not then pause it and hit the print screen button and paste it into paint or similar program and save it.
Reply:I would search images on yahoo or google for the photo.
Reply:Try searching Google images:

There are many pics from both Parent Trap movies, but you might find what you need.

How many orchid stems in a bridal bouquet?

How many stems of orchids would make a nice full bridal bouquet? Only answer if you KNOW what you're talking about.

How many orchid stems in a bridal bouquet?
it would depend on the variety orchid you want. some are larger, some are on large sprays with many blooms......

if you are talking about the orchids that everyone sees around Mother's Day....I would think 4 or 5 would be sufficient for a beautiful bridal bouquet. good luck to you on your marriage!!!
Reply:nine
Reply:Same as the dollar amout you spend on your clothes at Dollar General 9
Reply:How ever many make you happy. I had none. I had roses.
Reply:Who cares? If that was the most important thing about getting married, then it would be necessary to know. BUT IT IS NOT!

BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE VOWS THAT YOU'LL MAKE! You are making them for a lifetime,so, be sure that with all that is within you, that you're going to do all that is humanly possible to make this marriage work. To many people take marriage so lightly "O well" if it doesn't work I'll get a divorce. Marriage is something that you have to work at every day. You take the good with the bad, and learn to roll with the punches. Never be to proud to say I'm sorry. And never go to bed angry at your spouse.
Reply:It all depends on the type of orchids you want and how big or small of a person you are. If youare only 5' Tall %26amp; 120 lbs, I wouldn't go with to large of a bouquet because people want to see the bride %26amp; her dress with her beautiful bouquet not just the bouquet. However if you are 5' 9" or 5' 10" you can get away with a larger bouquet. Any good florist will be able to advise you of that...just ask your florist.

How do I open rose buds the wedding is tomorrow and im making the brides bouquet, oh dear.?

Ive had them in tepid water since yesterday in the basement level of the house.

How do I open rose buds the wedding is tomorrow and im making the brides bouquet, oh dear.?
Warm

Run a space heater... on low, not to close to the flowers... just get the temp up to over 80 degrees

add smething like Sprite (sugared) to the water

If you need to use plain sugar.. use a tblsp to one cup of water %26amp; heat or microwave until sugar disapates... allow to cool to room temp before using

If you do nothing else, then do BOTH OF THESE

IF you have Miracle Grow, then add a tiny pinch of that ..

And this depends on the "fullness" of the rose-buds.. what I mean is the point of developement...

Cooler season, they stay in bud longer.. if they are close to bllom, then this WILL WORK
Reply:If she wont mind close buds...they are still pretty. Just tell her something about them being more unique....if (IF) you can't get them open. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:The woman who is doing the flowers for my wedding actually showed me how to do this! All you have to do it blow on the flower and it will open. It takes a little while but it really does work, I have done it myself.
Reply:my nana used to add a little sugar to the water she said that always worked
Reply:Warm sunlight or something similar. flowers open when they "think" they can be pollinated.

Where did the bouquet and garter tossing traditions come from?

Just wondering when the bouquet and garter tossing traditions came about? I'm looking for the story behind them if anyone is familar with it.

Thanks so much!

Where did the bouquet and garter tossing traditions come from?
The practice of the tossing the bridal bouquet is believed to be an outgrowth of an idea that was popular in the 14th century, particularly in early French tradition. It was considered lucky to get a fragment of the bride's clothing. In those days, the bride was treated poorly. Guests would grab at her wedding dress in order to tear off pieces. Although brides continued to believe that they would not be wearing their wedding gowns again, they objected to its wanton destruction. They looked for an alternative and, instead began the custom of throwing personal articles, such as the garter, to the guests.

Other sources describe the garter as representing the virginal girdle. When the groom removed the garter he was, in essence demonstrating publicly, that the bride was relinquishing her virginal status. In medieval times, it was also traditional for wedding guests to accompany the newlywed couple to their bed chamber, after the ceremony. Sources say in following this practice guests became more and more rowdy, to the extent that some even attempted to disrobe the new bride or "take liberties" with her. In order to keep the other men at bay, the groom would toss the bride's garter as a means of distraction.

The practice of throwing the garter survived and became more focused. People not only subscribed to the superstition that whoever "won" the bride's garter (la jarretière) was lucky, but also that their good luck could be carried through . . . for it was believed that a man who gave his beloved a bride's garter would be guaranteed his loved one's faithfulness. It was up to the best man to "steal" the garter, tear it into small pieces and distribute it to the wedding guests. This notion was taken so to heart that oftentimes guests were seriously injured in the rush for the garter. Some guests apparently got drunk, became impatient and unruly and then tried to tear the garter off the bride. Brides became wary and modified tradition by allowing one garter to dangle, making it easy to reach.

When should we do the bouquet toss and the garter toss during the reception?

We did ours after dinner and speeches and after a bit of Dancing had already taken place. Our reception started at 6 and we did the bouquet toss and garter toss at 10:00pm.

When should we do the bouquet toss and the garter toss during the reception?
i think you should. its a good tradition.
Reply:Skip it--It's tacky!
Reply:ok you can ethier do it towards the end of the wedding or you can do it when you taking the garter off your leg you do it after that
Reply:Around 10 - 10:30, when some of the dancing has been going on for a while. Or time it just before the late lunch.
Reply:after dinner and speeches - during the actual "reception" portion
Reply:Here's our basic plan:

Small cocktail hour including dancing

enter bridal party, enter bride and groom which flows into our first dance. welcome and thank you speech from bride and groom, announce dinner is ready, dinner served, mother/son dance, father/daughter dance, free for all dancing. Bout an hour two later cake cutting, while cake is being sliced have boquet toss and garter toss. Begin toasts while cake is served. Dance till we drop. Exit.
Reply:It is done about a half hour after the cake is cut, after any special father daughter dances but before open dancing for everyone. It is the last official thing done.
Reply:we did ours after the cake.
Reply:You should do it, its tradition. the best time is when you guys are about to go. it should be the last thing done right after your cake. good luck and best wishes on your wedding.
Reply:I never liked going to weddings because of all the cliche events like the garter and flower toss. It ranks up there with the chicken dance and "celebration" by cool and the gang. It's all about taste. It's your day so do what you love.

For my wedding, I had Sarah Mclaughlin song "Ice Cream" for the cake cutting. If you must do the garter, leave out the other cliche wedding stuff. Make it original, most people hate going to these things unless it's somebody really close. So make sure the music is good, and the glasses are filled and they'll really be happy. Enjoy.

Will cut tulips (from a bouquet) grow if I plant them?

They don't have roots.

Will cut tulips (from a bouquet) grow if I plant them?
No, cut tulips will not grow. They need a portion of the bulb that the grew from to continue growing. Cut flowers such as roses can sometimes be rooted and then planted but this is not the case with tulips.
Reply:Goodness, if you plant your tire from an old car, maybe youll grow a Lexus!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Nope, they need the bulb as that is the store house for food and nutrients for the 10 months a year that they are dormant.

Can anyone suggest some very modern flowers I can have for my wedding day bouquet ?

I am looking for something simple and very modern. But I dont have a clue what is the best to go for ? Pictures would be great.Come on you trendy florists help me out !!!!! Thanx xxxx

when i see calla lily - i think modern ;)..just get 3 stalks and tie it with a ribbon..you get modern and sophisticated and trendy
Reply:i will try to look for it cos i deleted it from my favorites after the wedding Report Abuse

Reply:what's your colour scheme for the wedding?
Reply:What are your colours girl? Something like Bird of Paradise is way cool, cala lilies are getting popular again, and gerbera daisies in strong colours are really hot.
Reply:I had calla lilies. I think they're modern, classy and elegant without being in your face. A very nice flower for a bridal bouquet!
Reply:There are so many beautiful flowers these days its difficult to suggest any, you could be very different and go for a bouquet with greenery in as the main feature rather than flowers. I have seen this done to great effect at times.

Why dont you go to one of the florists in a large town near you if they want your custom they will only be too pleased to spend time with you and discuss options. I would say an independant rather than one of the larger chains would be better.

Reply:Dahlias are a great modern flower. Also those little white flowers that are pronounced (but not spelled) STEF-an-otis, these look great with little pearls in them!

White roses are classic and always modern.

Try a combination of these with natural green sage and some wild flowers! My was just like that and only cost $40US. because the dahlias were in season.

Hope this helps, and I wish you a wonderful wedding

Reply:Lilly's are beautiful and i think really modern, better then roses etc. Just be sure to have the pollen cut off becuase it stains! lol
Reply:I had all white tulips and had my girls carry a mix of colored ones...beautiful, but they begin to open if they aren't in water, so try to find some water between the ceremony and reception. Also, calla lillies are "whats in" currently. Hydrangea is pretty...and if you want cheap, you only need a few to create a really full boquet. Orchids are the other one I'd suggest...they come in all kinds of colors and can be mixed and matched with a lot of different flowers. :)

What will a fuschia bouquet will look like?

i want a fuschia(the flower) bouquet for my wedding and planning on makeing my own.Do anyone have a pic of what a fuschia bouquet will look like

What will a fuschia bouquet will look like?
To be honest, as it is a flower that 'droops', I am not sure how well it will look in a bouquet, unless you have a waterfall style one. I have googled fuschia bouquets, but there dont seem to be any - it just isnt popular choice. I mean, if u have your heart set on it then go for it - I think I would choose a lot of greenery to try and keep them upright and then have the odd flash of colour from the flowers. It could look beautiful. Good luck with it!

Reply:If you email me, I can send you a lengthy WORD document that has all kinds of websites on it. You might find what you are looking for on it.

Just make sure you try it out ahead of time and see how long the blooms last.

Substitution ideas would be freesia, or dendrobiun orchids.

What greenery would go best with ivory rose dome bouquet?

I am making my own bouquets for my wedding, so I am going with the very easy-to-make dome shape. Here's an example: http://www.theknot.com/ch_article.html?O... The problem is this type takes A LOT of roses, which equals a lot of money. What would be a nice greenery that I could use that would be easy to use and make the bouquet less expensive?

What greenery would go best with ivory rose dome bouquet?
While this type of bouquet does require a great deal of flowers - there are wholesalers who sell to those without business licenses. You can go to www.growersbox.com or do a search for wholesale roses on Yahoo. If you really want to add greenery, then ivy goes really well with roses.
Reply:Ivy works the best with roses.
Reply:I beg to differ, greenery would be nice. I had an all rose and greenery dome shaped bouquet for my wedding back in march. the greenery I used was called verigated pittsporium. It's actually a bush, but is very hardy and as long as you keep it refrigerated, you don't have to worry about it being in water constantly, so its perfect for this type thing. I'll put a link to the pic of the plant in the source box...Its green but has touches of ivory running throughout the leaves, it would be perfect with your ivory roses.

I worked at a florist for serveral years and it was so easy to add this stuff. you simply snip a small stem of it, tape it directly to the top of the rose stem (I would wire the stem first) do this to all your roses, and then assymble the bouquet, starting with 2 or 3 in the middle tape that together, then work your way out with the pre-greened roses. if you want, you can tape extra greenery around the base of the roses when done to create a collar effect.

The key with those is to not try to add 15 roses at once, postition 3-4 where you like and tape just those, filling in any holes as you go, it will make it a lot easier to make adjustments! They are pretty easy to make tho, I had made bridal bouquets like that when I had only been working there 3 months!

If you want to see a pic of how mine turned out, feel free to go look at my myspace, my profile pic has me holding my bouquet in a way where you can see the roses and greenery together. Mine were hot pink, but you can get an idea. Also, their were like 26 roses in my bouquet, so that business your site says about up to 60 roses is crazy, it would be huge and HEAVY! 30 w/o greenery was always plenty for a bridal bouquet, and bridesmaids ussually had a dozen with or w/o greenery!
Reply:I would have to agree. Greenery won't really fit into that bouquet. I am making my own also (it's similar), I have practiced and gotten good results using about 16 roses, I also threw in a couple orchids and calla lilies. It's not that big, but still looks nice.
Reply:Here's the best thing to do...(I made this for my sister.)

You'll need about 2 dozen roses, 2 bunches of astromelius or banana leaf if you just want all roses, floral tape, corsage pins, ribbon, rubberbands.

I got about 2 dozen roses at walmart already trimmed %26amp; cleaned for about $17. At walmart, you can also get floral tape, very useful. Instead of greenery, you can use small astromelius, (they come in a creamy white among other colors) which look like baby tiger lilys. One stem has about 5 smaller stems/flower with long thin leaves that stick up. One bunch of astromelius cost about $4 at walmart.

Gather about 6 roses in a bunch %26amp; rubber band them at the stems %26amp; wrap floral tape in the center of the stems.

Keep the stems as long as you can so that you can keep your bouquet in water before you add the ribbon. I left about an extra 2inches from where my ribbon was going to end.

Now add about 3-4 stems of astromelius all around the roses. they will peek up along with their leaves. Add the rest of your roses to fill the bouquet %26amp; finish with with the rest of your astromelius positioning the flowers to peek through in between the roses.

Rubber band %26amp; finish by wrapping the floral tape all the way around from where you want your ribbon to start %26amp; end. Keep in a vase until you're ready to add your ribbon %26amp; cut the ends.

I bought wide ribbon %26amp; corsage (pearl) pins and added the pins strategically to keep it all together. You can get all these things at your local wal-mart without it going over $40 and have a gorgeous, full bouquet. Good Luck!
Reply:I would mix in with the roses baby's breath, stephonitis, and a small varigated green ivy leaf. This will make the bouquet less expensive for you. But it will cost just the same, but it is your wedding day and you want it to be right.
Reply:Honestly a bouquet like that doesn't leave too much room for greenery. However to save some money you might consider adding some babys breath or a few carnations in there as well. That will cut the cost.

Originally I though ivory and ferns but I dont think you would be able to get it as tight as you need it to tie it all together with ferns. Consider all the grasses though. What color are your bridesmaid dresses? They have tons of grasses--I used bear grass in mine but there are many blue and red grasses as well.

What color flowers should I get for my bridal bouquet?

My bridesmaid's dresses are turquoise. I was thinking of getting colorful flowers (reds, blues, purples) for myself and whites and pastels for them to create a contrast. But I'm afraid that if my bouquet is too colorful it will take away too much attention from my beautiful white gown. Anyone have experience with that? Thanks

What color flowers should I get for my bridal bouquet?
I would stick with a little more muted colors for your bouquet because I think you're right about it taking attention away from your gown. Maybe you could have more exotic looking flowers and the bridesmaids could have just plain bouquets. Or you could have a variety of pastel colored flowers and your bridesmaids could have just white bouquets, or white with one other color instead of all the colors. In the end though, it's your wedding, and you should do whatever makes you happiest! People will notice your gown no matter what your bouquet looks like!

Hope that helps!
Reply:I think what you are doing sounds fine. I think the colorful bouquet will draw attention to yourself, and therefore the dress. Plus, people will see the dress afterwards as well. I am doing colorful gerbera daisies and sunflowers.
Reply:for the flowers.. i say go with your favorites..

not just base it on colour..
Reply:No offense, but everyone has seen every version of a white wedding gown and would likely appreciate something unique to enhance it. Just go with whatever you and your fiance likes...yes I said your fiance as its his wedding too.
Reply:I would do their in a color. make theirs smaller and you should have a big white one with pale pinks!
Reply:Have you thought about fans and having flowers arranged near the bottom -- not too many flowers to over power the fan.. but each of you have fans - the bridemades in their respective frock colourings just one carnation and fern.. and you could have a wee bit of gold in yours. Such as white and pick carnations with a gold ribbon just a thought

No they are not old fashioned either... even umbrella's something different
Reply:I had a large, colorful bridal bouquet and it was stunning! If you go that route, your bridesmaid's bouquets should be very monotone (especially if they're wearing turquoise). Style of your bouquet should be complementary to the setting of your wedding and overall tone (formal or casual, etc)
Reply:White and light green.
Reply:i suggest combination of pink, jasmine and rosy colors
Reply:Get peonies, they are only available one month out of the year, so take advantage of it. They are the most beautiful flower to have in a bouquet. Yet very pricey... And yes you are thinking of a way to colorful flower for yourself. Brides should have either white or pink or red. But those flowers don't come in red. Good luck
Reply:having some color in your bouquet can be beautiful and actually add to your dress and help break up all the white if your dress is very wide at the bottom (ball gown shape)

my bouquet had white and yellow star lilies with small white stephonitis flowers to fill it in, which was enough color to make the flowwers pop without overpowwering the dress. two-tone flowers like tulips or dafodils could do the same thing if they had white tips.
Reply:My bridesmaid dresses are pool and my girls are carrying peach gerbera daisies and I am carrying blush Calla lillies, they are an absolutely gorgeous combination.
Reply:I would do all the colors you want just add white flowers in them, you can do the colors in little bits each and it will be very pretty. Do alot of fill flowers in misc colors instead of the large flowers.

What times should we do bouquet\garter and wedding cake for our wedding?

Cocktails start at 4:30pm, Dinner starts at 6pm. We should be done eating sometime around 7:30pm - party runs until 1am.

What times should we do bouquet\garter and wedding cake for our wedding?
Good lord. Your reception lasts longer than a regal feast.

If you want all your guests to be present for the cake, please plan to cut it at 8PM. Most people will be ready for their dessert as soon as dinner is over, and they'll be past ready to go home - dessert or not - by 9PM.

I don't know when the wedding starts, but if you're asking them to have cocktails from 4:30, even assuming they skipped the ceremony, they've got a long evening ahead.

Maybe you're contemplating a 12-hour wedding day - bully for you I guess, the first day of your starter marriage is going to be a doozy - but you must not expect your guests to book a babysitter for an 8-hour marathon.
Reply:you don't even need to worry about that. the DJ will keep track of when everything shoudl happen, and he will announce it when it's time.

8 - first dance, other formal dances, then open dance

10:30 - bouquet/garter toss just as you take the break for late lunch
Reply:cake cutting should be about an hour after dinner is done

bouquet and garter toss can be about an hour after that

that's how we are doing ours.
Reply:Try and do the bouquet/garter before everyone is too drunk to see straight. After a few dances is a good time.
Reply:Sunny is just the DJ should take care of that.

You dont want to stop people from dancing and having fun to meet your time line. The Dj will pick a good time.

What kind of flowers should I have for my wedding bouquet and my brides maids bouquets?

My wedding colors are teal and black with some silver. My dress is Ivory with a lot of teal in the back of it. The brides maids dresses are mixed half of the girls are full black with some teal the others full teal with some black. What kind of colors for flowers would you recommend? I thought of peach colored flowers with teal. Any ideas?

What kind of flowers should I have for my wedding bouquet and my brides maids bouquets?
Unless you really just want another color you can easily do a very elegant wedding with just the black, white, and teal.

I would do bridesmaid flowers in diff. shades of white (makes it more interesting to look at than if its all ivory). Add small touches of teal to them. You can use teal feathers, teal flowers, make small bows out of teal ribbon and put it on floral wire and arrange, create jeweled "branches" using wire and teal beads. If you are using a flower with a bigger center like a Gerbra Dasiy you can cover buttons in teal fabric and glue them in the center of the flowers to make a white and teal bloom. Wrap the stems with a wide black velvet ribbon to give a soft romantic look then accent with thinner teal ribbon and tie in a bow.

I've listed a link below to some silver mint julep cups that make gorgeous vases and aren't very expensive. Use them at the reception for your ladies to set their boquets in and decorate the head table, cake table, whatever. Add a few of the cheap tealights just in their silver containers. If you like you can wrap the tealights with ribbons in the teal or the black.

Use teal fabric and create a table runner for reception tables. Trim in black ribbon and place over a white table cloth. Your eating utensils will provide thefinal touch of silver.

At the ceremony get one of those cheap white aisle runners. Paint a wide teal border all the way around (like 12 inches or so). Then, use black to make the outside border (like 3 inches) and paint your monogram on the end in black. Use the teal to carefully outline the edges of the lettering.

For a bolder look that would really pop use teal fabric for an aisle runner and have a black border. Then, either pre-scatter them or have your flower girl throw white petals.
Reply:for you...I would do a variety of white flowers....all differnt types...for the girls I would do the same except with the colors of light purples, light pinks, peaches, and some white to break up the colors.
Reply:here are a few ideas i thought would look beautiful

-one mint pitcher plant, two standard calla lilies, one bells of Ireland, bears grass and mixed greens.

-one single white rose with a fern behind the rose and ribbon (use the colors in your wedding for the ribbon)

-also google "flowers for wedding" lots of ideas there for you

good luck i wish you a very happy marriage full of love
Reply:pink or peach or also like a off white with peach...just don't have freaking twigs! My cousins wife had her bridesmaids carry a freaking long stem rose with a teal ribbon on it, it looked very tacky
Reply:Pink would be perfect. Teal is a darker color and with the black and silver, pink would brighten it up so much.
Reply:pink or peach will contrast nicely, especially with some teal ribbon around the stems or with some sprays of jewels in teal.

you could also use white flowers, like stephanoits or daisies to fill in the extra spaces in the bridesmaid bouquets, and some white roses in your own.
Reply:use the peach and teal with black ribbon and silver fill. you will probelly want to go with more peach in your bouquet with a little less teal, and the bridesmaids, 1/2 and 1/2 with bouquets in peach with teal or black and the other color in ribbon with the silver fill in both bouquets. Best Wishes.

Anyone have pictures or ideas for bouquet colors for my wedding?

My wedding is in November. My bridesmaids dresses are all burnt orange and my groomsmen are wearing dark chocolate tux with burnt orange vest and tie. Parents and grandparents are wearing gold. My dress is ivory in color. What color tux can the groom wear? and What colors can I coordinate for the bouquets and boutinniers.

Anyone have pictures or ideas for bouquet colors for my wedding?
Here is good website, they have bouquets divided by color, by style and by season

Reply:A simple white or ivory bouquet would look good such as this one: http://www.flamour.co.il/images/products...

or green also goes well with those colours- you could have green tea roses or green orchids.

Or something that coordinates the colours that you are using, such as these pictures:

I like the idea of sunflowers suggest above too. Maybe something like this:

http://j.b5z.net/i/u/2153076/i/bridal_bq...

If the groomsmen are all wearing brown tuxes, perhaps he could wear a brown tux too but with a different tie or vest to make him stand out a bit (e.g. he wear a brown vest instead of the burnt orange vest).
Reply:SUNFLOWERS! That would make extremely unique bouquets for the bridesmaids to carry... maybe in tiny baskets! You could wrap Rafia bows around the basket handles too. As for the guys, that's a hard one. Maybe some little mums! you could pin a red, an orange, and a yellow mum head all together for the boutinniers. As for your bouquet, it depends on how "fall" like you're willing to take your theme. A sunflower bouquet, if done the right way, could be beautiful, especially since sunflowers can come in all different colors. If I were you, I'd plant a gob of sunflowers this weekend, so you'll have them to play with! I'm not sure how long they take to grow, but I'd find out if I were you and plant them before your wedding. I'm not so sure flower shops carry a lot of sunflowers.

I dried a wedding bouquet as advised now i wish to touch up colour , how, they are white roses with pink edges

The flowers have turned brown and lost volume but as it is a wedding i would like to try to recolour them

How about food dye. You can tint the flowers with diluted food dyes using a fine water paint brush.

How important is it to you to catch the bridal bouquet or the garter belt? Would you step aside to let a 50+?

unmarried person do the catching?

How important is it to you to catch the bridal bouquet or the garter belt? Would you step aside to let a 50+?
Not important. It's just a fun thing. Now, for that 50+ person, the feeling may be desperate, so you should be CAREFUL.
Reply:I personally HATE catching the bouquet and will hide in the bathroom until that ridiculous, demoralizing part of the reception is over. If an older person wanted it that bad, sure I'd let them get it, but too many times I have seen some desperate young skank wrestle to the ground whomever did catch it, and steal it from them. I wouldn't want that to happen to an older person; their body might not bounce back as easily from the beating.
Reply:I guess it depends on the person. If they are obnoxious about it, then no. If you know it would really make their day, then definitely.
Reply:Any 50+ person who is single and wants to get married is an idiot. Kick them aside and go for the gold.

What do you think about a bride being unique and having a wrist corsage instead of a bouquet?

Maybe for a second wedding or non-traditonal wedding, even a first wedding were the bride is really unique. It sounds cool, hands free to hug guests. It's a different concept.

What do you think about a bride being unique and having a wrist corsage instead of a bouquet?
Anything that the bride wants is fine. If she only wants a wrist corsage then I would think that would be fine. What does it matter? Just so the bride and groom have the wedding they want without a lot of hassle and friction between families.
Reply:It sounds like a good idea. I had a friend who had a destination wedding, and she did that for the ceremony. At the reception she had here, she had a boquet to throw.

Also with a corsage, you can use more interesting flowers than with a boquet, like orchids and lilies.
Reply:um, she isn't holding the boquet the entire time...just during the ceremony, but then it is passed off to the maid of honor.....her hands are free the rest of the time..
Reply:Great idea
Reply:Why not! For second weddings I have even seen the bride and groom in place at the altar/arch/gazebo and their close friends all walk down the aisle each handing a particular flower to the bride which she then put in a small bowl as their table arrangement. Also, with traditional bouquets, I have seen only candles on the head table so that the bouquet(s) could serve as the floral arrangements! Beautiful!
Reply:It would be way too awkward and get in the way.
Reply:You should have whatever you want! Your wedding is about you and your new husband. I think it is a great opportunity to display your personal style...your wedding is a celebration of YOU...so if a wrist corsage is what you want then go for it!!
Reply:If that is something you want to do--why not?
Reply:Im just wondering what you would do with your hands while youre walking down the aisle... seems like it might look kinda awkward....
Reply:It's a unique idea and I love unique ideas. I remember seeing something along time ago where the bride had a wrist corsage instead of a bouquet. The flowers were attached to her gloves (only on one arm) and trailed up her arm (only to her elbow). Just a different twist on your description.
Reply:As a bridal consultant, I say - "do yo thang girl!" ...it's time to step out of the over-traditional and into the new millenium (sp)...All the tradition is fine, but, if you want to be different, that is ok too! Now, I am not saying go topless in a church wedding, that is tasteless....but, as far as a corsage versus a bouguet..go for it. It is very practical, and hands free is good because you can be more active......

Dare to be bold..be different!
Reply:That's an original idea. I say if you like it go for it!
Reply:It your day. Your meaning his too. If he is fine with it go for it.

We did many "different" things at our day. Do you know what everybody kept saying, this just seemed like them. I though that was a nice compliment.
Reply:Since you asked what we think, I'm going to be honest, because you need several points of view. Honestly, I would think she looked like she was going to the prom instead of getting married. It is a different concept. One I personally wouldn't opt for, but weddings these days are all about individual, unique touches, so obviously, the bride can do whatever she wants!
Reply:I thinks that it is definitely unusual and a bit quirky. Maybe is was a cost issue. Who knows?

I say do whatever you want for your wedding, because this is your money that you are spending.
Reply:GOOD IDEA THAT SOUNDS REALLY COOL
Reply:Good idea! Sounds really nice.
Reply:If you like it, why not? There's no need to fuss with a bouquet if you don't want to.
Reply:Lovely, this way you'll always have the flowers with you. You can't carry a bouquet around all through the reception.
Reply:very kewl, it is kewl to be different
Reply:Do whatever fits your personality best. Don't step away from that because you want to stick with tradition OR because you want to fly in the face of it. Either would be equally as wrong if its not you!

I've seen brides carrying everything from the traditional boquet, to a candle, corsages, a pomander ball of flowers, and even their dogs. It was all just as beautiful because it was always about the same thing, two people beginning their lives together as man and wife.
Reply:I do wedding flowers and have made them in white or ivory just for the bride, adding pearls, colored ribbon, nice fill, etc. check out my site I can help if you need one.

Is there a website where i can choose different flowers and arrange them into a wedding bouquet?

I want a few different flowers and i want to know what they would look like arranged.

Is there a website where i can choose different flowers and arrange them into a wedding bouquet?
Its probably a good idea to go to a flower shop in your area and try some stuff out. Most things that look amazing on the internet wont look nearly as good as the picture shows. And like the other person said, some flowers will do a lot better then others during the day of the wedding. Some flowers are "picky" and need to have some source of water, while others can be out of water the whole day and still look amazing.

Find some pictures you like on the internet, bring them to your local florist and they'll give you the advice you need.
Reply:any florist websites will have this
Reply:go to ftd.com or any floral website.....

Where does the tradition of catching the bouquet at a wedding come from?

Also, what does it really mean for the person who catches it?

Where does the tradition of catching the bouquet at a wedding come from?
The tradition of the bride throwing the bouquet is said to have started in 14th century England. The guests, thinking a piece of the bride's clothing would bring good luck, would grab at her fight for pieces of the bride's clothing, flowers, or headpiece to share in the good fortune.

Another version is in France in the 1300's the bride tossed her bouquet before she left on her honeymoon. The tradition began with the bride tossing a garter or stocking. The bouquet symbolised a bride's good fortune being passed to the maiden who caught it.

The bouquet toss has come to symbolize a wish for good luck from the bride to the single women guests at the wedding, and is believed to be the next to marry.

The garter toss is one of the oldest surviving wedding traditions. There are many versions of the story. The most popular is that it dates back to the medieval times. It was customary for friends, relatives and guests to accompany the bridal couple to the marriage bed. The guest would get e rowdier and rowdier, and some of them would try to help the bride out of her wedding clothes. To try to stop such embarrassments to the bride, the garters were quickly removed and thrown to the mob as a distraction. As time went on, it has evolved into the tradition we now know.

What is a bouquet garni ? i think it's a bundle of herbs, but what herbs? is this like provencal seasoning?

i have a marvelous french recipe website i stumbled onto, however i have no idea what a bouquet garni is...please explain. thanks!

What is a bouquet garni ? i think it's a bundle of herbs, but what herbs? is this like provencal seasoning?
As a chef of over 30 years in Europe, the traditional French bouquet garni consists of : parsley, thyme and bay leaf tied in a parcel of either celery or leek. If you leave a long piece of string you can pull it out easier. This is then cooked inside whatever dish you are preparing and removed prior to serving.
Reply:The bouquet garni (French for "garnished bouquet") is a bundle of herbs usually tied together with string and mainly used to prepare soup, stock, and various stews. The bouquet is boiled with the other ingredients, but is removed prior to consumption.

There is no generic recipe for bouquet garni, but most recipes include parsley, peppercorns, thyme and bay leaves. Depending on the recipe, the bouquet garni may include basil, burnet, celery leaves, chervil, rosemary, savory and tarragon. Sometimes, vegetables such as carrot, celery, celery root, leek, onion and parsley root, are also included in the bouquet.

Sometimes, the bouquet is not bound with string, and its ingredients are filled into a small sachet, a net, or even a tea strainer instead. Traditionally, the aromatics are bound within leek leaves, though a coffee filter or butcher twine can be used instead of leek leaves.

Alternatives to wedding bouquet and garter toss?

i'm planning my sister's wedding and trying to come up with fun things to do during the reception. so i was hoping we could do away with the usual bouquet and garter toss and do something fun as an alternative to these. will really appreciate suggestions. thanks!

Alternatives to wedding bouquet and garter toss?
An anniversary dance is always fun, and often very touching. Here is how it goes:

All the couples get out onto the dance floor and start dancing to a slow song. After a minute or so, the DJ asks anyone who has been together less than 24 hours leave the floor....The bride and groom leave the floor.

The DJ continues....asking couples together less than a year to leave the floor.....then 3 years....5.....10...20....30....and so on, until you are down to the couple who has been together the longest.

The last couple on the dance floor wins a gift...either a gift basket, a certificate...which can be combined with the bouquet and the garter, if you want. The oldest couple does not do anything with the bouquet/garter...just keep it as a sign of their long commitment to each other, from a newly married couple. I've seen couples who have been together up to 60 years...very touching.

As a side note, I do not like the DJ to say the couples need to be "married couples"...there are many long standing, committed couples who are not married for one reason or another. I don't think they should be eliminated from participating with this dance. That is just my opinion. Either way, it is a beautiful, dignified way to give a nod to the "Garter and Bouquet" tradition, while honoring the longstanding relationships in your family and friends.

~Kat
Reply:Instead of the garter thing, my niece threw a embroidered hankie with chocolate kisses inside.
Reply:My friend auctioned off her bouquet and the husband auctioned off the garter. I thought it was a neat idea and all the groomsman went intogether and got the garter for $300.00!
Reply:For the bouquet -

An anniversary dance. The DJ has all the married couples dance. Then he says anyone married less than 24 hours sit down. The bride and groom leave te floor. The he'll say one year, 5 years, 10 years, and so on until the last couple is standing. He can have them tell a tidbit on having a lasting marriage and they get the bouquet.

And I DO think they should be MARRIED couples in this case. Afterall, it's a WEDDING... so marriage is an important aspect.

Also, part of the fun is that the newly MARRIED couple leaves the floor first. What would happen if they had been together for FIFTEEN years before getting married? I've known my hubby for over 15 years.....
Reply:Toss a boa constrictor, you know the big fat ones!
Reply:I hate the bouquet and garter toss! So gald to see people are doing away with those. I love the anniversary dances suggested.
Reply:Rather than tossing a bouquet to the single women have single flowers presented to the married women. (Carnations or even daisies should be inexpensive as most florists will give you a bulk discount especially if they are doing the rest of the wedding) Let's face it most single girls really do try to avoid catching the bouquet these days.

If you know of someone engaged already have the couple come up and present her with a small 'toss' bouquet and have a set of earplugs for the guy "for when the gal starts talking about wedding planing!" Should be worth a few laughs.

Kind of stuck for ideas for the guys... though to be honest most guys could care less about getting something.
Reply:how about key toss, opens a lock on box with a special gift. do one for the men and ladies!
Reply:People look forward to those things. Some traditions shouldn't be messed with.

How do you save a wedding bouquet long term that is made out of real flowers?

Do NOT put hairspray on them. That will just dry them out and not preserve the details or the color. The best thing to do is have them freeze dried. There are places you can go to or send your bouquet to and have it done.

How do you save a wedding bouquet long term that is made out of real flowers?
you can also hang them upside down and let them dry and that is a free way to preserve them, except i am not sure if they last forever that way, so it really depends on how long you want to keep them.
Reply:well u can take them to a place where they do flower and have them dipped and then they will stay good and pretty
Reply:I put my bouquet in the freezer in a bag and today (13;years later) the flowers still look like they did the day we were married.
Reply:Why not make it something that you can add to your home decor?

Take the flowers and dry them out, then cut the stems short (different lengths). Put them between two thin sheets of tracing paper, and press them in a book, in a pattern of your liking. Then take the flowers on the paper, and put the tracing paper over a coloured piece of paper (that fits your decor), and frame it. A beautiful flower picture that you can look at and remember your special day. I plan to do it with my own flowers.
Reply:When i was a little girl i caught the bride's bouquet at my aunt's wedding. I was so proud of it and i wanted to keep it forever.

We hung the bouquet upside down in a dry place. You can put them in the Basement or the Garage. Let them sit there for at least 2 weeks.

I still have the bouquet, 7 years later.
Reply:there are professional places that can cover the entire thing in a thin sheet of (i believe) poly-eurethene (spelling). If you want to do it yourself, i hear hairspray works well, but is not a very long term answer
Reply:Speak to your florist. They may be able to do something to preserve them or have them make potpourri for your home. This service should be free.
Reply:Your wedding day comes and goes so quickly. There will be many moments you’ll wish you could freeze in time, such as your grandparents dancing or your little ring bearer snoozing. Photographs and videos will help you relive the day each time you go through them. There are other elements of your wedding day you can preserve as well, such as your dress and your flowers.

Your flowers will play a very important role in enhancing your wedding style, bringing beauty and elegance to the ceremony and reception. Having your wedding bouquet preserved can make a very special keepsake. Processes range from freeze dried to pressed, depending on the look of the final product you desire. After your flowers have been processed they can be arranged in a shadow box frame with other keepsakes such as your wedding invitation, a small piece of lace from your gown and sixpence, even a favorite photograph of the two of you perhaps!

Arrangements must be made before your wedding to decide on style and size of your shadow box and the date and time to receive your flowers. The flower preserver must have the bouquet within a day or two after the wedding and you will need to arrange for someone to drop off the flowers to the preserver in good condition as soon as possible.

Preserving fresh flowers is time consuming and takes a great deal of skill. The moisture is first removed to preserve the shape and color of each individual flower. Then a chemical process is applied to the flowers and greens. You need to discuss with the preserver, exactly how you would like the flowers displayed, the finished size of the shadow box, the frame etc. Ask for and listen to any suggestions they might have and you will have a beautiful keepsake of your wedding to enjoy for many, many years to come!

My boyfriend bought me a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of roses for valentines day....?

and Im going to be sad when they die. I would really like to preserve them somehow but I dont want to squish them, just dry them out. I also dont want the petals to fall off. I heard that if you spray hairspray on them it will help, but I dont want to mess them up. Anyone have any suggestions?

My boyfriend bought me a BEAUTIFUL bouquet of roses for valentines day....?
Silica Gel

Silica gel can be found in most garden centers, nurseries, florist, or hobby shops. It absorbs moisture from flowers rapidly, thus preserving flower color better than other drying methods. Most flowers will dry in 36 to 48 hours.

http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/plantsci/lan...

This link will give you several methods but I think the silica gel will work best.

PS I think it's reusable.

It's that little bag that comes in the bottom of packed items such medicines over the counter etc.

It's a moisture absorbing agent.
Reply:I just asked a question like this, except it was just about one rose (lol, remind you of beauty and the beast?) and somebody said that i should put an aspirin in the vase and it helps loads.
Reply:I THINK YES..........
Reply:just let them die...it's a part of life....they were living at one point
Reply:dried/pressed flowers can be very beautiful. google it
Reply:I always hang mine upside down. I've never used hairspray on them. They have held up for years.
Reply:hang them upside down somewhere, thay will dry out very anturally and keep their shape.
Reply:There is a product called silica gel that you can preserve them with. You can purchase it through florists and craft stores.

There are directions on the container, but you have to basically place the whole flowers in the gel to dry them out and they will still retain the way they look now.

Your boyfriend sounds like a keeper and a sweet guy.

Have a good day.
Reply:bragger!!!
Reply:Try calling a flower shop, maybe they can suggest something helpful for you. They are specialist in this field.
Reply:Add an aspirin or 7 up to the water. When they start to die, hang them upside down and let them dry-they will be beautiful. My husband brings me roses a lot and I have "saved everyone" this way.
Reply:Eh I've had bad experience with the hair spray, just hang them upside down to dry and it works wonderfully, my fiance has everyone of our flowers since we started dating dried that way.
Reply:freeze them or u can put a twig neer the long part so it looks like it is still up
Reply:Eat all the roses one by one thinking about the love of your bf.
Reply:He should of put one fake rose in there so at least one of them would never die.
Reply:spray them with max hold hair spray, then hang them upside down in the freezer it will preserve them perfectly
Reply:When I dry flowers, I hand them upside down in a cool place. Now I know that hydranga blooms can be preserved by placing them in a large container, upside down the slowly pour SILICA sand (probably can buy at any hardware store or home depot) to cover the blooms. It slowly pulls the moisture out and dries them without changing the color. You might call a florist and ask if that can be done.
Reply:I think you are supposed to hang them upside down to dry them... but I had some where I didn't do that I just let them dry in the vase and they were fine, but the stems aren't straight anymore they kinda picked a side to droop to but its not too bad. I would say hang them upside down until they are dried because they turn out better.
Reply:freeze them
Reply:put them in the pages of a thick book that means something to you, then check on them ion like 3 or 4 months.
Reply:Put a jar filled with water cut the tip of the stem vetically and put it n it works a week
Reply:Hang them upside down to help them retain their shape, then you can have a dried bouquet to arrange. No hairspray needed.

What is the traditional bouquet of flowers to send to a funeral?

My uncle died this week, but my family was not close to him.

What is the traditional bouquet of flowers to send to a funeral?
Lilies, traditionally, but nowadays, you can send virtually anything. Just tell the florist it is for a funeral and to make up something appropriate. They will know exactly what to do.
Reply:A potted mum or daisy-something the family could put out in the yard later or you could make a donation to a charity and have the charity send a card to the family.
Reply:There's nothing traditional. I just ask the florist what is the freshest thing on hand and send that. Sometimes it's a potted plant.
Reply:Most florists have basic floral arrangement ideas for bouquets for funerals...you need to first figure out how much you can spend so you'll get a range of choices within your budget. Once that's decided, let the florist suggest colors and types of flowers...any arrangement they make will be within the 'traditional' style. Then decide if you want something 'on a stand' [wire with legs so flowers are about 18" above the floor] that can be placed on the floor by the casket in the viewing room or at the church, or a bouquet in a standard vase to set by the gravesite later or placed with the other flowers by the casket.

If you're doing this via internet [like 1-800-Flowers, for instance] they'll have lots of color photos of funeral arrangements within the various price ranges.

A card should accompany your flowers, like "with deepest sympathy, from [family names included]". On an internet flower purchase, you can just tell them how the card should read. A card is really necessary, since the remaining family always tries to send thank-you notes afterwards...and often they'll keep the cards from the flowers as a kind of memento of the occasion.
Reply:Better than flowers donate to his favorite charity and send a card saying you donated in his name. Flowers die so quickly after a funeral we paid like 300 for two wreaths.. but that was for my Mom. Only immediate family should really buy the flowers, like mother, father, brother, sister or grandparents. The rest should do donations.

I don't know how long that link will be valid though.

I'd post some numbers of other flower shops here but I dunno if they would appreciate that. Also, I think FTD has a shop here.

I want to have a black and yellow bouquet is that possible?

I know I could have a black satin ribbon around the stems but I also want something black incoporated into all the yellow roses and flowers. Any ideas?

I want to have a black and yellow bouquet is that possible?
Black-eyed Susans
Reply:Sunflowers could work well.
Reply:i know you want all yellow flowers , but what about mixing black magic roses into the bouquet .

or you could get like black crystals and place them in the bouquet
Reply:Why don't you have some of the tips of the yellow roses sprayed with black spray. But, you know what would be prettier???? Having some of the tips of the yellow roses sprayed with gold. Then ONLY using some black and gold ribbons.
Reply:Black eyed Susans, or florists can dye the edges of flowers or babys breath
Reply:My grandmother did all my flowers (she use to be a florist) and my colors were black and red so I had an all red bouquet and she spray painted the greenery like fern fronds and boars grass black to mix into the bouquet. Although it did not smell all that great, it looked awesome in the pictures.
Reply:sure its possible....but will it be pretty? NO! it will look like a yellow bee...not unique...just morbid and ugly. yellow is so nice...match it with anything else like blue, orange, pink..anything but black.
Reply:Don't use black ribbon and black trim on your bouquet...so morbid and u g l y....Use a yellow satin ribbon or cream ribbon with greenery and yellow roses...Nix the black. Symbolically , black depicts mourning and death, and a wedding is a start of a new life...so why would you want to use a color that depicts death, gothic and mourning.
Reply:Black-Eyed Susan's are the state flower of Maryland. They are yellow with a black center. If they are out of season they can easily paint the centers of daisies black. Good Luck.
Reply:Hollyhock comes in a black flower. They even have a yellow center. There's an image here.

1stalk of red rose surrounded by 20 stalks of yellow roses in a hand bouquet?

is it true that it means a friendship leading to romance?

i want to send this message to her this coming valentine's day...

thanks.

1stalk of red rose surrounded by 20 stalks of yellow roses in a hand bouquet?
whats the signifcance of 20 i'd tone it down a little try 1 red 11 yellow very sweet though
Reply:To me it would. If you have only been dating awhile, I think it is a GREAT idea. The yellow will show how strong you feel about your friendship and the Red will show her, "That maybe one day you can love one another." Good luck...and dont forget the card, us girls love cards..... =]
Reply:Yes that would be the message. Yellow roses do mean friendship and Red romance. So many yellow roses I think really overpowers that one red rose though.

Can a divorced woman try to catch the bouquet?

At a wedding, they ask all 'unmarried' women to gather for the bouquet toss. Are divorced women included in that category? What about those who are engaged?

Thanks!

Can a divorced woman try to catch the bouquet?
sure - anyone who's NOT CURRENTLY married
Reply:Divorced means unmarried, so yes.
Reply:Divorced women are not married so they are welcome to participate if they like. Engaged women should not becuse the idea of the toss is that the woman who catches the bouquet is the next to marry. Sort of a luck type thing.
Reply:I've only ever heard it asked that SINGLE women come up. It used to just be single women, never married.

However, seems like all bets are off these days. Yes, if you are divorced you can get in that herd. I would think it would be really rude of an engaged woman to do this! However, technically she is not married.

I really dislike when parents let their little daughters go up though...
Reply:Hell ya.
Reply:I think the divorced woman can, but isn't a little pointless for the engaged woman to join in? But I do agree with an above answer...it's all about fun, don't pull out the rule book at the reception!!!!
Reply:You bet you can! Catch that bouquet!
Reply:Divorced yes, you are single, so go for it.

Engaged, I dont think so, it seems unfair to the whole meaning of the toss. But I know that engaged women do go out for the toss sometimes, I just personally dont like it.
Reply:Anyone who is not married is entitled to try to catch the bouquet. Even widows can try to catch the bouquet
Reply:anyone who isn't currently married..

doesn't matter if you have been or about to be..

:)

i don't think anyone is going to complain
Reply:I think any woman without a significant other (including divorced and widowed women) is welcome to try. Engaged women should sit it out.
Reply:Unmarried women include divorced women, although I'm not sure how many divorced women are anxious to catch the bouquet. I think that engaged women should exclude themselves since they already know that they will be getting married in the near future. Remember, the superstition goes whoever catches the bouquet will be the next to get married.
Reply:Technically, it is all single/unmarried women. I have seen both of your examples at many weddings as well as my own. I also had a widow in my crowd. It is appropriate for a divorced woman to catch a bouquet as well as an engaged woman. They are, after all, unmarried and therefore, single.
Reply:sure you can! you're not married.

as soon as I got engaged, I stopped trying to catch the bouquet.

however, I did catch a bouquet at a wedding, and I was the next one to get engaged...weird.
Reply:Sure why not everybody is entitled to try and catch the bouquet! It doesnt matter if your divorced or engaged, just as long as your not married.

HAVE FUN!!!! AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE BOUQUET, I HOPE YOU CATCH IT!!!!
Reply:what divorced woman would want to catch a bouquet?

Hmmm not me...
Reply:Absolutely!!! They are unmarried and can remarry... But who cares, I've been to weddings where ALL women were asked to try and catch the bouquet.
Reply:If they're not married they can catch it.
Reply:i dont see why not. engaged, on the other hand i dont think so
Reply:the bouquet toss is for anyone who is not married....

and it only means, if you catch it, that your the next to be married...

so its fine if an engaged woman tries to catch it....if she does, shes the next to be wed...

so get in there!!!!
Reply:A divorced woman caught the bouquet at my wedding. As far as I'm concerned, single can include divorced or widowed as well as those who have never happened to marry, so long as they wish to participate.
Reply:I have seen engaged, divorced and even widowed 90 year old women get up. Don't take it so seriously.
Reply:No, a divorced woman has been there, done that, and look where it led. Divorcees should stay seated during this tradition. But if ya don't ,well, who cares? No one is going to kick you out for it.
Reply:Why is it important? Do you want to catch the bouquet, or are you worried about who is "supposed" to be catching it at your wedding?

A divorced or engaged woman is unmarried. The purpose of etiquette is to allow people to get along in many different circumstances. So if you want to catch the bouquet, or if a divorced woman wants to try for it at yours, go for it! Have some fun! Enjoy each other's company, and don't sweat it. Be happy. Life's far too short to spend your time worrying about such small things.
Reply:It is for all who are not or no longer married. If you are engaged you are still single. Go ahead and catch that bouquet.
Reply:Single, divorced, widowed...I have even seen little girls do it!

Why not? It is a light hearted fun thing to do. Nobody will be arrested if a married person accidentally catches it.
Reply:well ya anyone can catch it.
Reply:Go for it! I hope you catch that thing and find Mr Right shortly after, good luck!
Reply:divorced - yes

engaged - no
Reply:When I was divorced, I was strongly urged to go up there. I didn't want to, but did anyway and actually caught the bouquet. I did feel a little funny about it, thought. Interestingly enough, I was the next to be married.

Where can i find the meanings of different flowers for a bouquet?

i was trying to think of what to have my bridesmaids carry for my wedding, and while i was thinking of little min lanterns, my fiance (yes, my guy thought of this...i though it was cute!!) suggested that each of them had a different flower, like one that means love, one for faithfullness, one for joy. (i'm having 3) but other than a rose meaning love, i can't find flowers that mean faithfullness and joy, or purity. what are some sites that have meanings of flowers so i can pick flowers for my bridesmaids and myself? thanks!! ^-^

How can i make my flower bouquet last longer?

some leaves are drying out but for the most part it is still soft

How can i make my flower bouquet last longer?
You can make it longer by removing the deadend leaves, trimming the bottom of the stems, changing the water frequently(daily or every other day) and by adding the flower food that comes with the flowers or by adding a little sugar to the water.
Reply:Fresh water daily, recutting the stems just a bit to remove bacteria clogs....assuming they flowers are not in foam.

Floral preservatives help slow the bacteria formation...you get a few more days. Keep the flowers out of sunlight and in cooler locations.

No aspirin or copper pennies in the water, that doesn't work. A bit of Chlorox does.....tiny bit as does 7-up or Sprite.
Reply:Take daily showers LOL
Reply:Place the flowers in a clean vase. Dirty and dusty vases are often filled with bacteria. These bacteria can cause the flowers to quickly wilt and die.

Remove the leaves on the stem. If the leaves are submerged in the water in the vase, they will die and cause the flowers in the bouquet to rot.

Give the flowers the food provided by the florist. Most fresh flowers come with a small packet of fresh cut flower food. You need to place the food in the vase every three days.

Change the water often. Stale water can cause flowers to not last. Replace the water in the vase at least every three to four days.

Keep the flowers in a cool room. The fresh flowers should not be in direct sun or placed near a heating source. This causes the water in the vase to evaporate quickly.
Reply:Cut about an inch off each stem. Be sure to pull off any leaves that will be below water level. Add one packet of that flower saver stuff (free at florist shops) to the vase, then add water.

Do this every 2 or 3 days to keep them fresh longer.
Reply:I think I have heard of using Listerine mouth wash, alittle bit in the water.
Reply:i have heard that asprin and sprite is good for plants, I am not sure why, but it helps them in some way.
Reply:i've heard that if you put coffee in the flower pot yhey will last longer but that just might be an old wives tale.
Reply:i read somwhere,a little suger in the water does wonders!
Reply:hi vaseline on the leaves traps the moisture and puts a really good shine on them,
Reply:i took the rose my bf gave me and let it dry-then i took clear laquer paint and sprayed it-i put on ten coats -i let each coat dry 10 min- ive had it a year now- it still looks good- you can get the paint at wal-mart for 97cents-hope it helped
Reply:cut the bottom tip of the stems everytime you give them fresh water.

Where can I buy a bouquet of snapdragon flowers?
snaps are cool weather plants so they are available in winter spring more than late summer. You'll have to have a florist order them for you. Most of our florist flowers are shipped in from around the world....give the florist a couple day's notice at least.

Are ranunculi good flowers for a bouquet?

I would like for my bridesmaid to carry a bouquet of ranunculas'. How do these flowers hold up in the heat? Are these good flowers to have in the summer time? Are they in season during the summer time - July?

Are ranunculi good flowers for a bouquet?
They are a spring item and as soon as the heat comes, they are gone literally overnight. Keep that in mind if you are ordering them for late May and have a second choice flower in mind. Prime availability is February through April with limited availability in December, January and early May.

You can always ask your florist to use professional quality silks and mix in a few silk ranunculus into the bouquets. I had that done with mine and it looked lovely. Nobody could tell they were artificial until they touched them.

How do I dry out/preserve my wedding bouquet?

I did this with mine, Go to a craft store and buy some silica it looks like little beads, follow directions and you are good to go..

How do I dry out/preserve my wedding bouquet?
You need to start by hanging the flowers up side down in a dry area for a few weeks or until the flowers dry. Next, go down to your local arts and crafts store and buy a can of spray made for this sort of thing- I do not know the type or brand name. Just tell the person what you want to use it for and they will know. Then, go home and spay the flowers. Easy! Another thought is to have them bronzed it will cost you, but a least they will be around forever.
Reply:hang them up side down
Reply:Hang upside down in a cool, dry, dark room. I never sprayed anything on.
Reply:Didn't you toss that to your bridesmaids?

I like the silica idea. There are companies that will freeze-dry a bouquet for a fee - that's the best way to do it to preserve the beauty of the flowers.
Reply:Spray a ton of good holding hairspray on it. then hang it upside down. it should stay nice and fresh =)
Reply:Hang it upside down in a dry, dark place. You can place paper over it loosely to keep dust away.

What's the different between nosegay style bouquet and hand held style bouquet?

A nosegay is a smaller, round, compacted bouquet (which is what I have chosen for my wedding) a hand held is more loose, with hanging flowers. Congrats!!

What's the different between nosegay style bouquet and hand held style bouquet?
Nosegay is generally made out of one type of flower and made to be smaller and not so dramatic.

http://www.adreamweddinghawaii.com/websi...

A hand style bouquet is generally much larger and a more dramatic statement and sometimes has a less uniform look, unlike a round ball. These are also made of numerous types of flowers, as well, and include greenery!

http://www.weddingflowersandmore.com/ima...
Reply:I'm not an expert on these things but I understand that a nosegay is a small bouquet. I don't think one is more romantic than the other. The bouquet should be part of your overall design. If you are doing simple and understated you'll want a small bouquet. If you are pulling out all the stops and having miles of lace and a twenty layer cake then you'll want your bouquet to be a (just barely) portable floral arrangement. Depends on your taste and your budget.
Reply:Nosegay is small and round. They're nice but if u want a bigger, fuller bouquet go with a handheld.

Has anyone ever heard of a "bridal bouquet plant"?
