How do I preserve my artificial bridal bouquet?

I just recently got married. I would like to preserve my artificial bridal bouquet. It has white roses and iris' in it. Any suggestions? Thank you.

How do I preserve my artificial bridal bouquet?
since its artificial, it will be an easy task! The craft stores sell silk flower cleaner. The flowers will get very dusty over time, so that helps. You can also buy a glass case or something to keep them in so they dont get dusty, thats pretty much it! They're silk so no drying needed!! keep them away from direct sun to avoid color fading
Reply:You could use a spray clear lacquer but remember it will turn yellow through the years. Other than that you could put it in a pillowcase unless you want to set it out for show.
Reply:If it's artificial it shouldn't need preserving. What kind of faux flowers did you choose?

Any suggestions for tossing the bouquet?

I want something different. Not the traditional way of tossing the bouquet.

The more creative. The better! Thanks.

Any suggestions for tossing the bouquet?
Aim it at someones head...
Reply:I know of one bride who did a unique toss! Somehow, the florist tied the bouquet so it would easily come undone when the bride pulled on the ribbon while throwing it back. The roses in her bouquet flew apart, and every girl ended up with a flower! Another alternative is simply presenting each single girl/woman with a flower from your bouquet in front of everyone.

If all the women at the wedding are married or already engaged, you might consider tying a small pacifier to the bouquet and announcing to everyone that the rules are different and the one who catches the bouquet will be the next one to have a baby! I think that that's a really cute idea.

Good luck, hopefully this helps :)
Reply:My DJ suggested me this one:

All MARRIED couples get on the dance floor then the DJ in the middle of songs (like "Musical Chairs") will say "Couple married one day sit down" the bride and groom then take their chairs. Then the DJ ups the length to 2 years and so on so forth, until there is only one couple left, then Bride presents them the bouquet!

I've never seen this done but it's sounds unique!
Reply:I would have several mini bouquets and hold them as if there was only one bouquet. Then turn around and say ready 1 2 3 then toss each individual bouquet one after the other so there is a never ending stream of flowers being sent out. It looks like a waterfall effect and is great for the photographer to capture.
Reply:Hi. I was the MOH at a wedding where the girl made her bouquet out of small hand-tied bouquets.. so there was like 10 small bouquets of 5-7 flowers.. just before the toss was announce she unraveled the ribbon , the announced the toss, the music played and she tossed it ... and everyone when scrambling.

I'm getting married this July and I'm thinking about not doing the traditional bouquet toss but to ask all the couples married to come on the dance floor... then have the DJ eliminate different groups 1-3yrs, 3-5.. etc. until the couple who is married the longest is remaining and give them the bouquet.

I'm also doing something kinda different -- I'm going to do the traditional dance w/my dad... However, I'm the only daughter born to the sons (ie my dad's brothers) so I'm going to ask for his brothers to all come up (there's only 3 left) and the dj will play a song and each will dance w/me ... the dj will tell them when to cut in. During my thank you speech I will give special thanks for my special uncles who have always been there for me... they are like my 2nd dads... my dad is totally happy with this. I'm going to give each of them a special token like a keychain or something.
Reply:Have one of your (married)friends hide the bouquet somewhere in a controlled area. Let 'em scrambled for it. Better yet, auction or raffle it off. Tell them it's to pay the bar tab!
Reply:The mini bouquets seem to be more and more popular as time goes on. There really aren't any alternative ways that come to mind, but I do like the idea of just giving each person a flower or bouquet. However, depending on the size of your guest list, this could be more trouble than its worth. I have some ideas now. . . . You could do some sort of scavenger hunt, with a few clues leading to where the bouquet is hidden, some mission impossible theme music as the backdrop. Or a quiz show with questions about you and your groom, maybe with some jeopardy music playing in the background. You could have various little activites going on throughout the reception up until the time you wan to do the "bouquet toss" and whoever has racked up the most points wins.

There are tons of alternative possibilities, but, no matter what you chose, it will be fun. Even if you decide to stick with tradition. People continue doing it over and over for a reason. Good luck and congrats. :-)
Reply:I am having a break away bouquet.

I refuse to line up only the single women, like cattle to the slaughter house, so anyone (female) who wants can participate.

Another suggestion would be to ask your florist, they've done many weddings and might have some ideas.

There is no flower shop in the airport. Snacks bar and small eateries are there.

I have a wedding bouquet, and it is already arranged and dried. I want to frame it. How do I make stick as is?

What you could try to do is get those cork backed frames which they sell at basically all those craft stores. They're basically box frames (that are made so that you can pin personal memoirs and hence have a large space btw the backboard and the glass). You can just use small pins to pin in your flowers. My cousin recently got married and I saw that on her bouquet she had pins that were also bound in the same ribbon as she had used around her bouquet so you couldn't see the pins. Try something like that to make the pins less noticeable

Another option could be just using glue and gluing the back of your bouquet to the frame (try to glue the strongest stems at the back of your bouquet so that it will stay up and also so it won't be too visible).

hope that helps =)

Using florist wire, wire it to a piece of card board. First cover the cardboard(this should be the size of the frame) with a nice paper or fabric. Poke two small holes, slip wire through and tie bouquet, just like doing a bread bag twisty.

How long did you save your wedding bouquet?

I'm thinking mine is so gross it should be thrown away... Has anyone ever regretted tossing their's out?

Incidentally... Do you think it's rude for a bridesmaid to leave her bouquet at the reception?

How long did you save your wedding bouquet?
I was married last June and I still have my bouquet. I thought mine was a little gross too, since I had Lilly's in it and they don't exactly dry out "pretty". But I couldn't see throwing it out. It's funny you asked about your bridesmaids bouquets because none of my bridesmaids (5) took their bouquets home with them. I have all the bouquets. I kept them all. Ah... Memories :) I got a shadow box and put two bouquets inside it with a wedding photo. It hangs on the wall in my living room. You can get a shadow box from any craft store. It's like a really deep picture frame. :)
Reply:After 2 years of marriage, I still have mine. Plan to use it in some form of floral arrangement in my new home.
Reply:maybe she just forgot the bouquet. do NOT throw out your bouquet...instead crumble them all up into potpurrie, add a drop or 2 of scented oil. find or buy a beautiful jarw/lid to hold the potpurrie. still your bouquet..just recycled. my aunt made lil potpurrie sachets w/net %26amp; lace %26amp; flowers. she used them in her dresser but also sent 1 , 2 each bridesmaids %26amp; matron of honor. pretty nice way 2 continue remem. your special day. just cont. 2 add oil drops when they need 2 b re-newed. she had ribbon on them also.
Reply:I still have mine and it looks good to cause i had silk flowers for mine.its packed in a box some where. good luck
Reply:I still have my bouquet 10 years and counting ( I dried and varnished it so it still looks beautiful)

In the rush and hub bub of the wedding day and reception a bridesmaid mispplacing her bouquet at the reception is not uncommon... Each bouquet should be marked on the underside to show which bridesmaid it belongs to so that it can easily be returned to her should it be misplaced...
Reply:I still have mine after 7 years of being married. I love the ribbons on it and don't have the heart to throw it out.
Reply:i still have mine in a vase, like stuck in a corner somewhere. it's really gross. i just can't bring myself to throw the thing away. it's a little rude, especially considering how pricey bouquets can get. oh I've been married for 3 years.
Reply:i just kept a few flowers from it. and yes, it is rude for bridesmaid to leave it. maybe she forgot though
Reply:I got my bouquet freeze-dried and mounted in a glass case- I'm a sentimental gardener- I didn't want those carefully selected flowers to just die.

I don't think it's rude to leave the bridesmaid's bouquet at the reception, just surprising. Flowers aren't as meaningful to some people, I guess. All of mine kept theirs and dried them... granted, I picked flowers on purpose so they would dry well....
Reply:The bouquet is merely a symbol. It's the rest of your life that counts, NOT the bouquet. Many more important things will happen in your married life that make your bouquet seem irrelevant. At least I certainly hope so.
Reply:I still have mine. I dried it out and have it packed away in a box. It is 13 years old.
Reply:no its not rude, that depends on the bride, And the other question, I had my bouquet for 10 years, then i got a divorce then i threw it away, As mine was not real flowers they were silk, I carried a homade bouquet A japenese Fan all draped in silk flowers, white roses
Reply:IT CAN BE KEPT FOREVER WRAPPED IN A SATIN CLOTH BAG AND KEPT IN THE TOPMOST SHELF OF YOU CUPBOARD,

IF THE BRIDESMAID LEAVES HER BOUQUET AT THE RECEPTION, SHE IS EMOTIONLESS AND THE TYPE WHO CAN ALSO LEAVE HER HUSBAND WHEN SHE MARRIES..
Reply:After the divorce, it was tossed in with the trash.
Reply:My bouquet was silk, very colorful and real looking. I still have mine stored away in a box five years later. I asked my bridesmaids if they minded giving me their flowers after the wedding. I have those stored away as well.

Obviously the flowers were not very important to your bridesmaid if she left them behind. Careless but not rude.
Reply:When it is dead, toss it. It will be in your wedding photos forever... Bridesmaid is not rude, she was probably intoxicated and forgot it......
Reply:My bouquet was silks so yeah I saved mine and the groomsmen flowers and I think the maid of honors also, I'm glad I did. I eventually had a garage sale and sold them and it happened a frantic bride to be came in as I was about to close and bought it and it had been what she'd been looking for but could not afford.

I think she may have just forgot it, if it has really hurt you why not call her and ask her about it. If she was enough of a friend to be in your wedding then she should be able to respect you and tell you why she left it behind.
Reply:I still have mine...it's been a year %26amp; a half...my flowers were silk though.

Where can I order online a bouquet of Red Roses and White Daisies?

I know my girlfriend would really love this for Valentine's Day, but I've been having trouble finding this offered, or a sight where I can order a custom bouquet. After much searching I've only located one site that offers the red roses and white daisies combo, and it seemed light on the daisies (12 Red Roses, 4 White Daisies) and kinda high in price ($45 with no vase plus $11 shipping.) Thanks.

Why do hotels always use white towels

From the guests perspective, what do you think about the bouquet/garter toss?

I have always, for whatever reason, enjoyed some of the tacky traditions, and the tossing of the bouquet followed by the retreiving and tossing of the garter is one of them! As a guest, do you cringe when it comes time for all of this hooplah, or do you find it exciting?

Since we're on the topic of what the guests think, are there any other traditions that you have an immense ammount of love or hatred for?? Please elaborate!

Thanks a bunch!

From the guests perspective, what do you think about the bouquet/garter toss?
I think the bouquet %26amp; garter toss are fun.

I despise the chicken dance and the electric slide and now the macarena. Since I am marrying on Halloween, I'm having the DJ do the "Time Warp" from Rocky Horror!
Reply:I enjoy watching them, but have never much liked participating in the bouquet toss.
Reply:As a bride I didn't want either, so I skipped both. When I was single I absolutely despised the bouquet toss and would certainly be found making a bee-line to the ladies room when that time came around. Now that I'm married I find it MUCH more enjoyable! :-) I've always despised the garter toss..I think it's in poor taste. As I've said before..some creepy old guy always seems to catch the garter, then one of your single gf's is forced to allow him to place it on her thigh?! No way. Worse is when a little girl catches the bouquet and they continue with the whole garter thing. Yikes. I have a lot of love for watching the first dance and father-daughter dance. I think it's very sweet and really what a wedding is all about.
Reply:Can't stand the bouquet toss. Usually that's when I find the need for a drink, bathroom or phone call. Hate the money dance, chicken dance and hokey pokey. Like the introductions and toasts.
Reply:i personally think it brings some fun into the reception. i also like the first announcement of the bride and groom as mr. and mrs. _______! i can remember that moment during my wedding. my heart skipped a beat. that was 22 years ago. but it seems like just yesterday! :)
Reply:I think the bouquet toss is lovely, but I think it's time for the garter toss to go - a niece of mine recently got married, and for the single guys she threw chocolate kisses wrapped in an embroidered hankie.

It just seems to me the garter is so sexist...
Reply:As someone who was single until her late 30's, I always hated that tradition. I hated being trod out onto the dance floor like some loser trying anything to get a husband. That isn't me and I don't like the implication.
Reply:hate: bouquet toss

garter toss

favors

speeches that go on and on and thank everyone the person ever knew

speeches designed to embarass the happy couple by dredging up stupid stories

first dances that are copying dance moves seen in movies - tacky!

love: wedding ceremony

watching the first dance done as a traditional beautiful slow dance

the father/daughter dance

light fare, not heavy heavy meals

the sheer romance of the day
Reply:especially the garter toss. and i plan on keeping my bouquet so am not going to throw it to a bunch of women who may or may not end up manhandling it.
Reply:I love it! It gives me a great laugh when you see these things! I think it is very entertaining and your guests would wonder where it was if it was not done.
Reply:I don't like that tradition at all, it's just not classy. My husband and I did not do it at our wedding, nor did we do the bouquet toss. We kept things elegant.

Things I love at weddings are the bridal party coming down the aisle, and then the bride coming down with everyone standing to face her...the kiss that seals the deal at the altar, and then simply the fun of the reception. All that hard work deserves a party :)
Reply:The bouquet toss is my least favorite thing about a wedding reception. It's rather embarrassing to be singled out (no pun intended, of course) as a single girl, especially if you haven't been allowed to bring a date. It's ninty times worse if the girls get into some silly wrestling match.
Reply:To be honest, I'm glad I'm not single, when the bouquet gets tossed. I always hated that! I also despise those money dances and wishing wells - any kind of cash-grab by the bride and groom.
Reply:I love both traditions.

I don't not believe they are tacky or distasteful, as others have said.

Do I think some people make them that way, YES! But, anything can be made classless if you try hard enough.

I love the garter toss and the bouquet toss, if done quick and sweet.

I really enjoy the tradition and I think it's cute to see who catches the bouquet and the garter.

Of course, if a 15-year old girl gets the bouquet and a 45 year old man gets the garter, you aren't going to the guy put the garter on the young girl.

Well, I wouldn't. But, that's what I'm talking about. Some people would (thus making it classless)

But, I think this is a fine tradition, as long as you know HOW to keep in appropriate.
Reply:love:

the bride and groom's first dance

the cutting of the cake

tapping glasses for a kiss

hate:

bride and groom smashing the cake in each others faces

tossing garter/bouquet
Reply:I hate the bouquet toss and the garter thing. I also DESPISE the dollar dance.

I do love it when the bride and groom give their mothers a rose or other flower on their way back down the aisle after they say "I do". One wedding I went to, the couple put bracelets on each other's mother that was pearls and had a charm with "Mom" engraved on it. I though that was especially sweet.
Reply:my oldest son is getting married in June, his fiance told me the other night that she is not doing the bouquet toss or the garter toss.....I was so relieved, I always thought it was so tacky...after you have seen it done a few hundred times, its not even a tradition anymore....
Reply:I don't like the bouquet/garter toss much. It always made me feel all awkward to be pushed, prodded, and teased to go catch the bouquet. And the garter toss always seemed a little tacky to me, especially when the groom tries to take it off with his teeth. While I'm at it I'll add the money dance, the chicken dance, and the hokey pokey to my do not like list.
Reply:I think it's a heinous, hillbilly tradition, but I guess it depends on the event. If your wedding is going to be casual and relaxed, then I guess it's fine. But at an upscale, elegant wedding, I feel that the bouquet/garter toss has no place being there. I think it really embarrasses a lot of the guests to have to take part in that.
Reply:HI ,

i love bouquet toss its really something very nice its like a good luck thing for the girl who gets it.

for garter toss i am not sure i don't like it anyway, for my wedding i am going to skip this.

favors r something very impotent for me like this people remember the fun they had at ur wedding

speeches designed to embarrass the happy couple r good like this they came to now what u think about them

watching the first dance is very good and romantic done as a traditional beautiful slow dance

the father/daughter dance

and some fun stuff is also good

What kind of flowers are normally in a bouquet?

If you like something a little more exotic than just roses, there are orchids, lilies, stephanotis, calla lilies, bird of paradise, ranunculus, gerbera daisies, and many others. It all depends on your taste.

What kind of flowers are normally in a bouquet?
Ones that are alive
Reply:roses, i'm sue by the way
Reply:That's like asking what kind of food people normally eat! In other words, it depends on your personal preference, as well as what's available to you. There's no right answer. You can mix different flowers together or make a bouquet of all one kind. You can do a particular color, or color scheme, or just go for all the colors of the rainbow. Doesn't have to be just flowers, either - you can add ferns, ivy, or lots of other greenery. Have some fun and be creative.

What is the best way to dry a bouquet of roses that were given to me?

hang them upside down from the ceiling. They will dry out.

That;s the way I dry mine

What is the best way to dry a bouquet of roses that were given to me?
Hang them upside down
Reply:hang them loosely tied together upside down and lightly spray them with some aerosol hairspray. they will last forever.
Reply:There are a couple ways that I have dried roses. If you want to keep the bouquet full and round, wrap a ribbon or rubber band around the stems and hang upside down until they dry. You can use hairspray or a fixative and spray on them to help things from falling off.

The other way is to get a container deep enough to cover all the roses, and bury them lightly in clean sand. This will dry them slower and more consistent.

Finally, if you want them flattened, of course you can get a heavy flat object and flatten dry them that way.
Reply:Hang them upside down seperately. Very fragile. Don't put them near any wind or heat. I know, I have every rose my boyfriend ever gave me, and we've been going out for 4 years. Spray with hairspray.
Reply:you can hang them, Or wrap them in paper towel and press them between two heavy books for a week, you can then frame them put them on the wall or get creative

No I don't sorry and I doubt if they will bring it back if they're anything like Lancaster, I loved their original Lancaster perfume in the black box with the white flower on it but haven't been able to get it in years!

Anybody knows what has become of Gelya Markizova the little girl giving a bouquet to Stalin in a picture?

dated in 1936? The few I read, is the sad story that a year after the picture with Stalin was taken, her parents were accused of spying and murdered...is a sad story..but anybody knows what happened with her? Is she still alive?

Anybody knows what has become of Gelya Markizova the little girl giving a bouquet to Stalin in a picture?
I saw an interview with her on a Stalin bio. on the History Channel. I have no idea how old the documentary was but at the time she appeared as a woman of 60sh (my best but probably lousy guess). She recounted that about a week after the picture, her father was arrested and though he was sure it would be cleared up, she never saw him again. I think that she and her mother were subjected to the usual hardships that accompanied arrests like these, they were at least not killed and were spared the gulag.

Where can I buy a cheap bouquet for my daughter to play with?

My 7 year old daughter likes to play dress up, she's got a brides outfit and wants a bouquet or posy. I've looked on E bay but can't find one for less than a fiver plus postage, does anyone know where I could buy a cheap aritificial bouquet?

Many thanks

Where can I buy a cheap bouquet for my daughter to play with?
Wilkinson sell fake flowers. I think they are 49p for one.

But they do different types and different colours, so you could take your daughter there and let her choose 5 flowers and tie them together with a pretty piece of ribbon, and there is your bouquet of flowers! All of which she likes because she hand picked them!
Reply:Buy some artificial flowers from one these £1 shops and tie together with ribbon to make a DIY posy that's what I did for my daughter.
Reply:You can go to the dollar tree and get some flowers and make one.
Reply:look in second hand shops places like that hope you find one
Reply:Try the 2nd hand/charity shops in your town centre... there are loads in the ones here...
Reply:Why don't you have a look in your local charity shops, or your local market? You might be able to pick up a few silk flowers and put together a little bouquet yourself.
Reply:If you go to the dollar store or wal-mart, they have really nice silk-like flowers. Throw in some ivy, wrap the whole thing in some ribbon at the base (all found at the dollar store!!) You got yourself a cute bouquet... for probably less than $5.

We did this at the bridal shop i worked at so a girl can get "the total look"
Reply:If you have a local craft store, you can get some very realistic looking flowers to tie into a bouquet. Check out the clearance rack for some real deals!

For the stems, you can wrap them in medical or electical tape (to cover the wires) then use a hot glue gun to put some ribbon over top of that. You could even make this a 'project' that she could help with.

Another option, check with your local florist or bridal shop. Often they have old sample bouquets around that they'd be willing to get rid of for just a few bucks (if not free).
Reply:try e.bay
Reply:Why don't you buy some artificial flowers %26amp; make one yourself. She might even enjoy doing it with you.
Reply:Try joining ur local Freecycle group http://www.uk.freecycle.org/

Everything goes for free! With the aim of recycling rather than dumping!

U wouldnt believe what u can get for nothing!

I just gave away a couch, table, cockery today!

A flower bouquet is a collection of flowers in a creative arrangement. There are different kinds including nosegay, hand-tied, and cascading bouquets. Flower bouquets are often given for special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries. They are also used extensively in weddings. Traditionally the bride will choose these flowers.

What colors can I use in my bouquet with wedding colors of Turquoise and Brown?

I need help with putting together my bouquets for my bridesmaids. I already have turquiose flowers, but I need to know what other colors can accent their turquiose and brown attire....

What colors can I use in my bouquet with wedding colors of Turquoise and Brown?
I would keep them flowers very simple. Maybe you could do white with a pale pink or just go with the white. You could use either white or ivory calla lily or maybe a champagne colored rose with the turquiose flowers that you already have - then you can wrap them with brown ribbon/fabric. I think that would make a lovely combination.

Or, maybe you could do something like this and wrap it in brown ribbon/fabric:

Just try to keep it simple. I think that simple is very elegant.

Good luck to you!!! And Congrats! ♥
Reply:first... i was also thinking doing tourquoise for my wedding... what kind of flowers did you get that are tourquoise? are they real?

as far as other flowers... i would recomend white, ivory, or light pink. Daisies would be good as well... just the regular kind (white).
Reply:Yellow would be nice. Or the usual.. white. Orange would be cool too. It depends on if you want the color to pop. I am an artist so I suggesting colors that you wouldnt think of right off the bat. Also a pink would be nice.
Reply:Turquoise %26amp; chocolate is a beautiful combination; since they are strong colors I would go with cream colored callie lillies..
Reply:ask the florist about floral cabbages. theyre a greeny colour with deep purples and browns. They arent actually cabbages by the way.
Reply:I would do white. If you do another colorful flower, it will only take away form the turquoise.

Reply:Yellow sunflowers.
Reply:A very pale pink or ivory would look nice.
Reply:A really bright orange would be nice. Not too much, though, because it is meant as an accent.
Reply:white would be good. Are you talking about real flowers? There are turquoise flowers? Cool!
Reply:WHITE AND A LIL ORANGE OR MAYBE WHITE AND A DARK BLUE OR PURPLE
Reply:Pretty blue forget-me-nots and vibrant deep RED ROSES. I think White would look pretty too..
Reply:white. any other color would be toooo much.
Reply:Pink and white!!
Reply:Add a little burnt orange. It's all the rage right now!
Reply:White, looks good with anything, and is classic.

Is $200 a lot for a bride bouquet with 10 mini callas and 8 cymbidium orchids?

seems like it to me

Is $200 a lot for a bride bouquet with 10 mini callas and 8 cymbidium orchids?
NOT A GOOD IDEA TO MAKE YOUR OWN BRIDAL BOUQUET!!! like you need more stress during your wedding! honestly your getting a deal for 200 most florist would charge a lot more. callas are expensive for a little flower usually run 8-9 a piece. Cymbidium orchids travel further and are usually 6-7 dollars a piece add labor greens and filler your getting a deal trust me. Not to mention your helping out your local florist and it will look great on your wedding day instead of worrying about you making it or a family member.
Reply:Sue go to Sam's Club! You can order your flowers, a lot cheaper! Than you can ask them if they would help too make up the bouquet or show you how! 8 orchids should cost over 10 bucks at Sam's!! Everyone does it!! :) check it out!
Reply:Both are expensive flowers, especially the 8 orchids.

Whats the best way to preserve a bouquet of flowers?

Hang them upside down. Depending on the type of flower, they should dry totally intact in a week or two. You just have to be careful with them once you take them down because they fall apart more easily. Try spraying them with acrylic once they're dry :)

Dry them individually, and make pot pourri
Reply:i agree with the hanging upside down. But i use hair spray to keep them intact. Tends to be a little bit cheaper and its always on hand.

Where can I buy pre-stemmed bouquet holders?

I have seen an item that is made with fake stems at the bottom and floral foam on the top that flowers could be inserted into to make bridal bouquets.

Where can I buy pre-stemmed bouquet holders?
Go to a craft store. If you have a michaels arts near by they are good. Some fabric stores like Joann's and Hancock have them also. look for arts and crafts store in your phone book, or floral supply stores.
Reply:joann fabrics, michaels, maybe hobby lobby
Reply:I found them in the wedding department at Wal-Mart for about $10.00. Made a really beautiful bouquet and added that fresh flower touch.

What is the most elegant flower to use in a wedding bouquet?

A rose is probably among the most elegant of flowers, but most flowers are beautiful and you should feel free to chose one that has special meaning or simply appeals to you.

What is the most elegant flower to use in a wedding bouquet?
I love calla lilies. They are logn-stemmed, pearly-white, and very simple-one "petal."

They are associated with funerals, but recently brides have made them popular. They are VERY expensive-like $35 a stem, but 3 with long pale ribbon, and greens is very elegant.
Reply:White lily or orchids
Reply:Orchids

For those who picked songs for bouquet toss or any other event?

How long does the event last compared to the song? For example, most bouquet tosses are over in under 2 mins while many of the songs suggested for them are over 3 mins. Same for garter removal/toss, cake cutting, etc.

For those who picked songs for bouquet toss or any other event?
I would say that is about right. The DJ or band will just fade the music out or keep playing music to allow time for pictures and what not.

Truthfully I don't even remeber what happend....I was having too much fun.
Reply:the dj cuts the song so that it only lasts as long as the event
Reply:Try using a song that everyone knows... they will not miss the ending of the song, and it can be played underneath the entire event. think enhancement, rather than overtone. I'm using something sweet, like "Going to the Chapel". cute, not artsy, and the girls will love it. try the same thing for the other events, but keep the music low and try to use something sentimental if possible
Reply:The DJ will know when to fade out the song. The song generally plays from the time the event is announced until it's time for the next one to start. So the bouquet toss would fade into the garter toss song, etc.
Reply:The DJ will usually time everything right...if it doesn't last as long as the event then the music just fades out. It's not a big deal...and in all the excitement of the girls fighting to get the bouquet no one notices :)

If your engaged are you "allowed" to try to caught the bouquet?

I am going to a wedding this weekend and I wasn't planning on standing up for the bouquet toss but the bride has mention several times to me- she hopes I caught it. So are you suppose to go up to caught if your are engaged. I am asking because I was at once wedding where the girl was engaged and caught it and people were pissed about it. Maybe they were just an angry single crowd of woman? LOL

What do you think?

If your engaged are you "allowed" to try to caught the bouquet?
Personally I see no problem with it. You arent married yet!

However, you will be the one to deal with the lonely mob of angry single women....

Its like the time I caught the boquet when I was 11 years old... Everyone insisted I stand and try to catch it (I didnt want to).. It litterally fell ON me, then they all got pissed off. Very mature.
Reply:YOU ARE ALREADY PLANNING TO MARRY... THIS IS FOR SINGLE UNENGAGED WOMEN......

I WOULD SAY NO
Reply:Personally, I HATE this tradition. If you aren't married, you're single so you could participate if you want. The question is...Do you want to participate? Is your fiance going to be at the wedding with you? What if he doesn'st catch the garter? Now he has to sit there and watch as another man touches his bride to be's leg? Bride should not be offended if you don't get up there. It's a dumb tradition anyway. I say DON'T. The answer to your question though is, yes you are allowed.
Reply:Technically, the way I understand it--ALL single women gather for the tossing of the bouquet. When I got married, my maid of honor was getting married in 4 weeks--so I looked over my shoulder and made sure she caught it...LOL Everyone had a laugh about it--since they knew she was the next one getting married anyway.

The wedding you mention sounds like a bunch of angry single women to me....LOL I mean, it's a silly tradition--I don't think ANYONE puts any stock in the whole notion of whoever catches the bouquet is going to be the next to marry....what some people will choose to get their panties all in a wad over never ceases to amaze me...LOL
Reply:You're still single! Go for it. And I hate the angry masses of single women, but especially the little girls whose moms allow them up there.....

I caught the bouquet at my sister's wedding, and I WAS the next to get married in the family!
Reply:The rules are completely up to the bride! I like this suggestions best... http://www.brides.com/weddingstyle/tradi...

I like the part where they suggest the "marrieds-only dance" where the last couple standing gets the bouqet. I think that a long lasting marriage sould be honored at a wedding. It's better than making single women feel like they are less worthy and need to snatch a husband.
Reply:Hmm. Good question Bubbles! :) Honestly, my understanding has always been that the bouquet toss is for single women to see who gets engaged/married next. So, I would say "No. If you are already engaged, you are not supposed to participate".

However, having said that, one of my closest friends dragged me into the bouquet toss at her wedding. At the time I was in a long term relationship but no wedding date in sight...she wanted me to try to catch the bouquet so hopefully I would be the next one married, according to tradition.

~Shrug~ If the bride was asking you to participate, in that case I say go for it. If the other girls had a problem with it, they need to get over it. The bride is the one who asked.
Reply:It is for un-married girls but how will you fiance feel when the man who cathces the garder is putting it on your leg???
Reply:If you have a ring and a wedding date set, would you consider yourself single and available?

If you don't have a ring and haven't set a date, you're not engaged, you're still single.
Reply:I think that it is for all un-married girls.
Reply:I didn't think you were supposed to cuz I the tradition is whoever catches it is the next to get married, but considerin your already gettin married, I don't see the point....but when I was engaged, I went to several weddings and I got pushed out there every time...I just stood in the back...lol! At mine, I was aiming for a single friend of mine who had been dating her man off and on (way more on!) for nearly 12 years, and my 9 year old cousin caught it...bummer, but oh well! And she actually got engaged I think 8 days after anyway! :)
Reply:Yes of course... Catching the bouquet supposedly means that you're next in line to get married. What the bride's telling you is that she thinks you should be next in line! :)
Reply:if you're engaged, you're single. Go up there.
Reply:It all depends on how the bride feels. I think that the boquet is for unmarried women so you are unmarried (even if you are engaged) I've been in a relationship for 3 years and always get dragged up to the boquet toss, so i would ask the bride what she thinks and it sounds like she wants you up there (and it is HER day afterall) so go for it!!!!
Reply:I would sit that one out...you are engaged so technically you aren't single.
Reply:Yes, you should go and try to catch the bouquet. I caught the bouquet at my aunt's wedding a month before I got married and the girl that caught the bouquet at my wedding already had her wedding date for a month after my wedding. yeah, you should definetely try to catch the bouquet.
Reply:I'd say yes its okay...because its for UN-MARRIED gals.
Reply:Yes it is okay. I'm engaged to be married in Nov 2007 and i caught one at my aunt's wedding this past march. To me its a sign that our marriage it was meant to be!!!
Reply:YA FOR SURE YOU CAN IM ENGAGED AND I CAUGHT THE BOUQUET AT MY FRIENDS WEDDING IN MAY. IF YOUR NOT MARRIED YOUR STILL SINGLE I HOPE YOU CATCH GOOD LUCK
Reply:I'd say it's fine if you go for it. Supposedly the person who catches the bouquet will be the next to get married, right? So there's no reason you shouldn't join in. By the way, try using the word "catch" instead of "caught" for all tenses.
Reply:YES!

Ah but the nose knows. Go witht he cream blossom, the hyacinths smell simply heavenly! Cymbidiums are beautiful, I grow them in the garden, but they have no real scent like the heavenly hyacinths!
Reply:If you want a more exotic look go with the Orchids.
Reply:cream blossoms with hyacinths.
Reply:The Cream Blossom.
Reply:They are both beautiful... If I were picking between the two I would also consider the container. I saw an episode of Martha where she was showing some of the bouquets and the vases/containers that she chose specifically for the flower arrangements. There was a lot of time and consideration in choosing them.

If you like the flowers equally, choose the the bouquet based on the vase...

Braiding ribbon is the same as braiding hair. If you are making the bouquets, it's important to leave enough ribbon hanging to braid. I have put in some web pages that will give you instructions in how to french braid hair.. It can be trasfered to ribbon

strawberries and pineapple sticks. If coconut is a fruit, I would say try coconut.

If you covered bananas in chocolate, they may hold up better than without. but I wouldn't give her uncovered bananas, they would go bad very fast!

You may want to just try fruit kabobs at dessert. if you try that, drizzle a little honey over the top and grill if you feel really ambitious. Grilled pineapple is out of this world!!

How much would it cost to make a crystal wedding bouquet?

Just wondering if anyone knew how much a crystal wedding bouquet would cost- a larger one for me the bride. that is if I made it myself. I was also thinking of doing smaller ones for the bridesmaids and boutineers for the guys and one coursage for a girl on my fiance's side. Has anyone done this? Any tips? I was just looking around online, and I think I really love this idea. I'm all about new ideas for our wedding :)

Reply:Not sure exactly on the cost, but from stores genuine Swarovski beads the size shown cost around 25c each. You would probably need at least 200 (most likely heaps more)so thats $50 for the beads. You can get them cheaper off ebay, but I think they are only crystal not swarovski they don;t sparkle as much.
Reply:I don't know about an exact $ amount for each bouquet, but look at this site. http://www.firemountaingems.com/ You can buy Swaroviski crystals (sold per bead) or Celestial Crystals (sold per strand, so they are much cheaper but give the same look). You can also buy silver wire too. You would want a small guage wire so it fits through the holes in the beads. (FYI-larger gauge number means thinner/smaller wire, 26 is smaller than 20)

It shouldn't cost more than regular flowers to make these crystal bouquets. Just be careful of the wires poking people's hands. Maybe wrap the "stems" with colored ribbon to match your wedding.
Reply:oh, that's very pretty, esp. if you're planning on getting married in a snowy winter month! I think you can find the materials for that at Michael's or another craft store....I bet it wouldn't be as expensive as you would think! Good Luck!

they are very simply called pink tipped yellow roses, often called Peace RosesThat's a great selection for a wedding boquet!

How long will a bouquet of flowers last without water after purchasing them?

it depends on the flowers themselves, and of course the condition they were in when you got them.

you are safe to keep flowers out of water for probably a couple of days, but keep in mind that it will lower the entire life of the flowers. the best thing is of course to get them in water right away.

here are some tips for extending the life of most flowers:

when it is time to put them in water, cut about an inch off the bottom of the stem. cut it at a 45 degree angle. then submerge the entire flower in water for 30 seconds. not just the stem, the entire flower. then just store them in a vase with water as normal. this will help them to live around an extra week.

How long will a bouquet of flowers last without water after purchasing them?
They're going 2 last about a week, I just got roses about a week ago and they just died, and I haven't watered them..So this is a fact, but if you take care of them it wouldn't be a week

How to dry a rose bouquet?

I have a beautiful bouquet of long stem red roses that my husband gave me for Valentines Day. So far I've kept them fresh by putting them in the fridge every night and they still look brand new. Now I want to dry them though and use them as decoration in my living room.

I know that usually you are supposed to hang them upside down in a dry, dark place to dry them, but we live in a very humid area (right now the thermometer says the humidity is at 56%).

Would hanging them upside down in a dark place still work or is there some other trick I need to know?

Oh, and FYI, I live in North Africa and we do not have arts and crafts stores here. Any tricks would have to be something simple that I can do at home without having to buy anything special.

How to dry a rose bouquet?
I have successfully dried roses with humidity at about that level. Just give it a try, and find the driest, dark place such as a closet. A gentle fan might help keep the humidity down, but don't point it at the flowers too much.
Reply:I found this answer in the first link. It also shows you how to make potpourri out of them (I'd rather have the flowers, not the potpourri). The other link teaches you how to use other methods (like microwave and silica gel). I dont recommend that since silica gel is not readily available in stores (have to go to a craft/fabric store). Hope this helps!!

For best results, we recommend that you arrange the roses in a vase with water and floral preservative, as you would with a regular arrangement. Let the roses open up until they are approximately halfway open. if you do not let them open at all, you end up with very small buds (if this is what you are looking for, proceed with the following instructions). After you have allowed the roses to partially open, remove them from the vase, tie a string around the bottom of the stems and hang the bunch upside down in a dry place. It will, depending on the humidity, take about two weeks for the roses to completely dehydrate. You will know when they are dry enough by gently squeezing the buds. If they are still soft then they are not yet dry. When the buds are quite firm, you may untie them and arrange as desired. It is possible to spray the buds with a 'hardener' (available at many craft stores), or hairspray, after they have dried. Doing this will help preserve the flowers and prevent crumbling.

How to dry a rose bouquet?
Make a small hole in the bottom of a PAPER grocery bag. Put the stems throught it . The hole should be snug around the stems, leaving about 5-6 inches of stem inside the bag.

Tie the stem base Tightly together by wrapping a shoe lace or something soft around it leaving about a foot or more of line.

Now, touch the open end tips of bag together and put tape to close the top, leaving it roomy inside. You dont want the bag to touch the roses.

Lastly, tie the leftover string to a hanger (the roses will be upside down) and place it somewhere the roses can dry out like in a spare room or unused shower. When they are dry, spray them with aerosol hairpray all around like you would a fresh hairdo and put them in a pretty vase.

How nice of your hubby. Enjoy !!

Would a white bouquet look weird with an ivory gown?

I was originally planning to have a white gown and a bouquet of calla lillies, which are my favorite flower. However, the dress i fell in love with and purchased is in a color called "light gold" which is basically an ivory thats a tad darker than traditional ivory. I still really want white callas. Also the guys will have ivory shirts and white mini calla bouteniers, and the flower girls will have ivory dresses and possibly a posy of mini callas. The lady at the flower shop told me they'd look fine but she may have just been trying to make a sale. What do you think, would white flowers and ivory clothing look odd? Also, should the ring bearer then have an ivory pillow to match his shirt, or a white one to match the flowers? Would it look weird if he wore a white boutenier and carried an ivory pillow?

Would a white bouquet look weird with an ivory gown?
I love calla lillies too and don't think they will look bad at all with a light gold dress especially since you'll have the greenery as well.

The ring bearer's pillow should probably match his shirt since they will be held up against each other.

My dress will also be light gold and the person making my cake told me that I should not have a white cake because my dress would look 'dirty' beside the cake in pictures. Given that she has more experience with weddings than I do, I'm taking her advice and doing an ivory cake with little white decorations. Just thought you might want to consider that when choosing your cake.
Reply:I would not use white on ivory. white next to ivory will make the ivory look dingy. white will be eye catching and the first thing eyes will be attracted to. You don't want anything to take away from your wedding dress. Flowers should compliment your gown not be the focus of attention.Think about your pictures to. Could the white calla lillies be sprayed cream with a little filler flower accenting the bouque with some color?.......with ribbon matching the filler flowers wrapped around the stems and cream color pearl push pins holding the ribbon in place.
Reply:You can play around with flowers on this site - build your own bouqet.

http://links2love.com/wedding.htm

Something like this would look lovely -

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i279/c...
Reply:It won't look weird- what I suggest is using a filler flower in a color that will also compliment your ivory dress.
Reply:It will look great but add a filler flower with a little color to help break it up.
Reply:If you already have the wedding dress it would be worth putting the calla lillies next to it to see what you think.

With foliage the bouquet will not be all white.
Reply:I am having a champagne dress- so i can relate to the white problem. Why don't you tie the flowers with an ivory ribbon? This would pull the dress and the flowers together.

Then for the pillow I would recommend :

this one is an ivory "calla lily" pillow, which would help incorporate the two:

http://www.theweddingoutlet.com/index.as...

Or this one is white with ivory monogram stitched in it

http://www.davidsbridalgifts.com/Metalli...

Or you can always wrap the same ribbon on your bouquet around a white pillow.

either way I don't think people will be analyzing the pillow and his flower anyways! good luck %26amp; congrats!
Reply:I don't think it would look odd if you added another color in the bouquet as an accent color. Burgandy or blue would look beautiful. If you don't add a bright color in somewhere, you might end up looking a little washed out. Good luck!
Reply:The problem isn't how it looks in person. It will look beautiful as calla lillies are a gorgeous flower and the colors go quite well together, especially with the greenery.

However the problem is in the photography. When photographing white on ivory, the flowers blend into the dress and in the pictures it is difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.
Reply:I think a little color would add to your bouquet too, besides the greenery. The ringbearer's pillow should match his shirt in my opinion.

Best wishes for a beautful day!

How to make a cascading bouquet?

Just experiment. Practice and experimenting is how florist get good at it. This is a skill and there is not real short cut. Helps if you are already artistic though;

What do you do with a bouquet after you catch it at a wedding?

I would like to insure my chances of being next to marry. Is there anything special I need to do with the bouquet I caught to insure my chances?

What do you do with a bouquet after you catch it at a wedding?
Hm... I know what you mean, but you should also realize that the bouquet itself doesn't necessarily signify anything. It's simply psychology. If you do have a guy in your life, maybe you could give it to him as a hint that you're thinking of going further in your relationship. If not, just keep exploring and meeting new people.

But usually, when one catches a bouquet at a wedding, one just holds it. Apparently. Good luck!
Reply:How superstitious are you??

If you want to preserve the bouquet hang it upside down in a dark cool place for a few weeks then spray with clear coat varnish...

To ensure you are the next to get married ask someone who desperately needs to stay in the country because his visa is expiring tomorrow...
Reply:Well after my aunt caught my bouquet then the guy that caught the garter placed the garter on her leg. But my bouquet was given back to me for my keepsake. So that I can get it preserved
Reply:Nowadays, the bride usually will purchase one bouquet to walk down the aisle with and another smaller one to throw. If you're the lucky girl who caught the bouquet, you get to keep it. Hang it upside down to dry and to keep the colors and keep it as a keepsake. I don't know how much that will really ensure that you will be the next to marry.
Reply:Nope you just keep it.
Reply:No, but some people have it preserved, or press the flowers to give back to the bride as anniversary keepsake presents.
Reply:First of all you stick your tongue out at all the other girls who tried to get it! Then u look around at the bachelors and see which one u might want to marry! Keep your eye out for Mr. right! I caught the bouquet at my step sisters wedding and I WAS the next one to get married! Then you can put it in a ziplock freezer bag and freeze it so it stays beautiful with time!
Reply:Make sure you are engaged and start planning a wedding! Another tradition that is used a lot is to use that bouquet at your wedding as your toss bouquet!!
Reply:LOL- Pray to god... to budda...

It's really doesn't matter. It will happen when it happens.

Most people dry it out... would be very nice to put it in a shadow box with a pic of your caughting it!!
Reply:It's a superstition.

Give it back to the bride so she can keep it (unless she has purchased a throwing bouquet), but before you do so you usually take a picture with the bride and the bouquet.

It's her memories, and her bouquet.
Reply:under a full moon light red candles and shove the bouquet up your ***......im pretty sure this will work im on my eighth marriage good luck
Reply:keep it of course
Reply:If you are going to catch the bouquet I would definately wear some underware at the wedding.

Keep the bouquet and dry it in a dictionary or something like that.

What's typically cheaper in wedding bouquet - day lilies or roses?

I just want a cheap, but simply beautiful bouquet with either day lilies (i think they are also called asiatic lilies) or roses....any idea approx. how much each cost?

What's typically cheaper in wedding bouquet - day lilies or roses?
Lilies cost more because they're grown from a bulb and produce only one stem per bulb. Roses are grown on a bush and just continually reproduce. I've grown tons of lilies. I love them. You're not going to want day lilies. Day lilies are on a thin stem with a large base of leaves at the bottom %26amp; they bloom %26amp; die within the same day, hence being called a day lily. Asiatics are beautiful and they do last. Also, Oriental lilies are used a lot for weddings.

If I were you, I would go with the lilies because they are much larger and more dramatic, so you only need a couple of them mixed in with other greenery, whereas the roses, you would need more of to fill out the bouquet. Here are a couple using orientals:

http://flickr.com/photos/florabelladesig...

http://flickr.com/photos/10267511@N03/94...
Reply:Roses are less expensive than lilies. There probibly about $6 to $8 dollars difference. You could also do a combo of both if your really set on lilies!

Good luck!
Reply:It depends on when you're getting married. You can pretty much count on a bouquet costing anywhere from $100 -200 unless you do them yourself.

If lilies are in season, then they will be cheaper because you will need fewer stems since they are large. Out of season, they will be expensive.

Roses are pretty cheap all year.

Look at this: http://www.growersbox.com/catalog/weddin...

You can order a "wedding in a box" and do all of your flowers yourself for less and they have a rose and Asiatic lily box.
Reply:Roses are usually cheaper because they are in season all year round. Where as lillies are only in season for part of the year. The rest of the year, they are very expensive so I would go with roses.
Reply:Go around to your local floral shops who specialize in weddings. Personally, I'm using fake flowers for mine.
Reply:Probably the lillies if you get them at costco or samsclub. the only downfallis you have to stick with one or two colors unless you want to be up to your eyeballs in flowers!

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.asp...

Remember that each stem has more than one bloom, probably around 3-4 blooms per stem.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.asp...

But, roses can be used also to make bouteniers and petals for flower girl...so maybe it's better to go with roses. just depends on what you want.
Reply:it probably depends on your location and the time of year.. you need to ask a local florist..
Reply:Everything is greenhouse grown today- so NO seasons.

Plain rose like red or white will be cheaper... if you get into high breeds then it's $$$.

My bouquets was $500.00 for high bred roses (pink and orange- flown in from Holland)- about 3 dz and this include a trial bouquet so I could try it with my dress first. Remember you want good flowers not cheap supermarket things because you don't want them to wilt or open up and fall apart.

Good luck! : )
Reply:Look for your flowers in silk vines...the kind you'd drape over an arch or something. Usually silk-flower vines are held together by links that can be cut, so you can easily cut them to the length you need. You should be able to secure them to your other stems by threading your upright stems through them and using floral tape or wire.

You also might want to think about going to a place like Michaels or another arts/crafts store. Usually they have people there that teach classes on floral design. They may be able to show you how to do one...or even make one for you at a good price.

Has anyone ever tried cutting hibiscuses and making a bouquet out of them?

I'm a budding floral designer (pun intended) with lots of gorgeous hibiscuses on my patio. I'm dying to t ry to arrange them for the dinner table, but will they wilt quickly?

Has anyone ever tried cutting hibiscuses and making a bouquet out of them?
I HAVE NOT MY SELF,PERSONALLY---BUT, MY MOTHER DID WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE!!!---to be placed into a floral vase.

How do I make a bouquet for a wedding rehearsal?

I am the maid of honor at an upcoming wedding and I was told that we are supposed to keep the bows and ribbons from the bridal shower to make a bouquet to use at the rehearsal. I kept the bows but I'm at a loss for ideas. Are there any websites for tips on this?

How do I make a bouquet for a wedding rehearsal?
Do something simple. Don't go overboard with bows and ribbons....make sure to put the actual bows on top as the head of the bouquet, while the ribbons flow downwards tied behind the bows....color coordinate too! (ex. don't put a patch of blue bows, and the one red one, etc)

Now this isn't the best example, but it'll do:

Reply:You can buy the whie plastic bouquet rings with the handle attached that have the soft foam inside and glue the bows onto the green flower sticks into the foam, or glue them onto the bouquet ring. Look in the florist or wedding aisle of a hobby store.
Reply:Most take a paper plates and stick the ribbons and bows onto the top of the plate. Then you'll need to take another plate and shape it into a cone, for the bride to hold on to. Then hot glue it to the bottom and presto!! Instant ribbon bouquet.
Reply:you punch holes into a paper plate and put the backs of the bows through the plate, or i suppose you could also tape them on really well.
Reply:Use a small paper plate and stick all the bows on that. Attach something for the bride to hold it with.
Reply:for something different you dont have to use a paper plate. My MOH used an actual bouquet holder (plastic about $5 at the craft store), she attached long pieces of floral wire (kind of sewing them together) to each bow and then tied them into the holder to make the actual bouquet, then took the fancy ribbons, pearl strands, flower ornamentations etc and weaved them through the bows and created a sort of long spray hanging down. It was beautiful and I still have it. My daughters play with it all the time, its a great keepsake!
Reply:yup paper plate...with bows and ribbons on top...
Reply:You can glue/tape the bows and ribbon onto a paper plate, roll another paper plate staple to the original paper plate to make a handle, or you can secure a paint stirrer to the plate for a handle.
Reply:I can't find a great website. But I was the MOH in a friend's wedding last summer. And this is how we did it. I took a large size paper plate and punched a hole in the center. Then I took a few larger size bows and centered them while pulling the ends through (so the bride has something to hold). Then fill in around the edges with smaller bows. We had some many bows that we had enough to make smaller bouquets (dessert sized plates).

Reply:Its not that big of a deal...it's just a rehersal boquet. Cut out a round piece of cardboard, cut out a cardboard handle. glue the handle on and start gluing ribbons and bows to the cardboard.

It is more so the bride can practice how to hold her hands and when to give the boquet to someone than actually having to serve a real purpose.
Reply:I made one recently. I went to the dollar store and bought a large silk rose. I tied %26amp; stapled all of the ribbons and bows to the rose %26amp; stem. That way there was something for her to hold onto with all of the ribbons.

Hanging them upside down will still work. 56% is not that humid. You ha one other responder with good advice, except the last part. After the roses have opened partially, and you have enjoyed them some, take them out of the water. Carefully separate them and if possible wrap a small thin wire around each stem. Place a small hook in the end of the wire and hang them upside down. They will dry faster and will dry in a more natural configuration and finally if one flower develops any fungus it will not be passed to the other roses and ruin them all.
Reply:For best results, we recommend that you arrange the roses in a vase with water and floral preservative, as you would with a regular arrangement.
Reply:put them in a large book and, and put something heavy on top of the book. let there for a while. when it dries put in a photo album

Why do you cut a couple of inches off the stems of a bouquet ? Anything to do with vascular tissue?

I am curious about transpiration and what this has to do with it.

Why do you cut a couple of inches off the stems of a bouquet ? Anything to do with vascular tissue?
Transpiration (evaporation of water through plant stomata) remains in effect after the flower has been cut from the parent plant. Thus, water in the xylem is pulled up the remaining stem, and it is not replaced. By cutting off a portion of the remaining stem, you re-establish the transpirational stream, and thus the flower wilts at a reduced rate, in effect “apparently” living longer.

Some studies have shown that the break in the transpirational stream is nearly instantaneous. Thus, one needs to make the cuts under water to re-establish the stream.
Reply:When plants are cut, the leaves continue to transpire, using up the water that the xylem are transporting from where the roots used to be. If several inches are not cut off the bottom, the xylem will contain air pockets that, when they reach the flowers and leaves, cause shock. Cutting the bottom few inches off in a timely manner will eliminate the air bubble in the xylem, especially if the cutting is done underwater and the plant is immediately transported into a vase with water.

You can see the air bubbles if you take a stalk of celery with the leave still on and put it in water with food coloring for thirty minutes, take it out for fifteen, and put it back in for thirty (depending on the health of the celery stalk).
Reply:Unless they are freshly cut the ends have dried and water won't travel up the stems and keep the flowers looking pretty (they will wilt and dry up instead).

Cutting the ends off before placing them in a vase of water lengthens the amount of time the flowers will look pretty/fresh.

How many flowers in a bridal bouquet?

I am interested in making my own bouquets for my wedding. I am using roses and calla lillies. How many stems makes a good size bridal bouquet? How many for a bridesmaid? Thanks in advance!

How many flowers in a bridal bouquet?
Find a nice picture and eyeball it. Make sure it's bigger than the bridesmaids.
Reply:I think it's going to depend on your taste. I plan to do my own too. I love the breezy, hand-tied look, and I can save a lot of money going it on my own. I am using Gerbera daisies for my bridesmaids, and for those I plan to leave the stems lovely and long, so I would imagine 7-8 daisies per bouquet will work out fine, tied in ribbon and secured with a brooch. For my maid of honor I am going with pink gerberas and pink roses, so hers will be a little fuller, again tied with ribbon and a brooch. Mine will be all pink roses, so I figure about a dozen for mine, with greenery and ribbons.

I hope that helps!!
Reply:i've heard of 9 in the bridesmaid bouquet and about 15 in the brides bouquet. Try www.proflowers.com
Reply:The number of stems depends on the type of bouquet you will be making. I've been to wedding where the bride and the bridesmaids carried just one stem. And there are some cascading bouquets that have a large number of stems. There are so many books about making bouquets; they will tell you how many you need and how to make them. Keep in mind that the type of bouquets you want to make consider the type and style of your wedding, how elaborate the dresses are, your body size, and your budget.
Reply:As many as you and your bridesmaids can comfortably hold
Reply:It's the width- mine is 15" rose round... about 4 dozen.
Reply:The best way to judge is to start holding them together. I would suggest going to a florist and asking how many are in a normal bouquet. If you are using silk, then get some and make one and see. Always over order a few, just in case.
Reply:A typical bridal bouquet contains 25 stems of flowers. The size of the actual bouquet will depend on how large the roses and calla lillies you are using. I personally would recommend mini-callas - they come in a variety of colors and are absolutely stunning.

I carried a bouquet of calla and roses down the isle (25 stems total) and it was a good sized bouquet. For the bridesmaids, the florist used slightly smaller flowers to create smaller bouquets. You can always use less flowers (go with 15 stems) if you want a much smaller bouquet. If you send me your email, I can send you a picture of my bouquet.

Just a hint - always use odd numbers in your bouquets so you don't need to worry about symmetry.

Congrats!
Reply:go for 8 to 12 stems in the bridemaids bouquets.

go for 14 to 18 in the bride bouquet.
Reply:Normally the bridal bouquet is slightly larger and more dramatic than the bridesmaids'. If your dress is simple, be more elaborate with your flowers, but if your dress is fancy don't distract from it with too many flowers.
Reply:for a full bouquet of callas and roses about 10-12 inches in diameter you would probably need around 3 dozen roses and 2 dozen callas. Sounds like a lot but if you want it to look full, round and lush it takes a lot of densly packed flowers.
Reply:I've actually sat down and figured out how many I want for my bouquets as well and I am using White roses and Blue Dendrobium orchids. Now, calla lillies are a little larger in size so you may want to adjust this down if it looks to be too much, but I had decided on 6 roses and 3 stems of orchids for bridesmaids, 8 roses and 4 stems of orchids for my MOH and my throw away bouquet and then 10 roses and 5 stems of orchids for my bouquet.

As I said, calla lillies are much larger in size than Dendrobium orchids so you may want to adjust that slightly but there's a good place to start. Best of luck
Reply:Just look at pictures of bouquets. That's what I did for my wedding. I went to www.theknot.com for alot of info, including pictures of bouquets. You can really do whatever you want. Just make sure your bouquet is the biggest and baddest in comparison to the bridesmaids. Maybe just have them carry 3-4 calla lillies tied together.
Reply:i used the same for my bouquet i had about 15 roses and abour 25 lillies the more the better for the bride!
Reply:there is about 6 in a bouquet

Can anyone think of a variation of the tradiational bouquet toss?

My friends and I have always hated the tradition of having all the single women line up and fight over the bouquet. I need a creative spin on this for my wedding reception.

Can anyone think of a variation of the tradiational bouquet toss?
Have all the guys line up for the bouquet toss.
Reply:My girlfriend did a beautiful variation at her wedding. She didn't call all of the single girls to the dance floor - only particular ones (about 10). For each girl, she had a little prepared speech about why that girl was special to her and what she appreciated about her. She gave each girl a flower from the bouquet as she gave the speech. It was really sweet.
Reply:I liked the idea where the guys catch it- that would be funny!!

Or how about ALL the women and girls can catch it, and say whoever catches it has good luck next week? (or you could attach some fortune cookie-type message to it, to take the focus off finding love for the single person)
Reply:I've always disliked the whole idea of the bouquet toss, too. My florist is going to make my bouquet with mostly white lilies, and six yellow roses, and will tie it so that I can easily remove the roses later. Instead of tossing the bouquet, I'm going call my sister and my sisters-in-law up to the dance floor and give each one of the roses, saying just a few words about sisterhood and how important they each are to me.
Reply:throw poison ivy!
Reply:Do you hate the thought totally? If you do, then don't do it at all. Nothing says you can't start your own traditions.

If you still want the tradition of catching something to indicate the next bride, then what about buying a bunch of carnations or other flower, tie a fake wedding band to one of them, then have the single ladies and men pick flowers.
Reply:My husband and I didn't do this tradition either... But where we got married it is a tradition to dedicate your bouquet... the bride stands up and chooses someone to dedicate her bouquet to. In the end, though, if you don't like the tradition don't do it, no one will really notice (at least they didn't at my wedding)! Good luck!
Reply:This might sound a bit goofy, but . . .

If you and your friends hate the tradition, why even bother with a variation on the event. Just don't do the bouquet toss at all.
Reply:If you want to eschew the toss completely, I would give the bouquet to your mum, a close female relative, or a good friend. If you still want to do something, I do like the idea of picking the carnations with a ring attatched.
Reply:Are you wanting a variation to bring out all the single people? You could always do like the dance thing in the movie "Dirty Dancing" where you line up the single girls on an inside circle, the single guys on an outer circle.... face each other ... have them moving in opposite directions (clockwise and counter clockwise) and when the music stops they have to dance with who they're facing. Kind of a ice breaker, so to speak.

I suppose you could also get the single ladies out onto the floor and toss a bunch a single flowers so they ALL get one.
Reply:For my wedding we're going to have a few tosses...

1. I'm calling up anyone who wants to - regardless of gender or marital status - for the bouquet toss - to represent good luck, happiness, and success - instead of who is going to get married next.

2. We're calling up dog owners and owners of small furry pets. We're going to toss a dog toy and then have a small prize/gift for the person who catches it.

3. We're calling up cat owners and owners of fish or birds. Then, we'll toss a cat toy. And have a prize for that person.

4. We're calling up people with children and/or no pets - and throwing a small rolled up blanket (when it's rolled up it looks like a cute elephant.) - and whoever catches that gets a prize as well.

EDIT: LOL - to all the thumbs down. Our tosses are not traditional, no, but we know our guests and they are going to expect something fun and out of the ordinary. They all know when they come over to our house, they're going to leave with something fun and interesting. So, though this may not be to everyone's taste, and may not be for people who want to adhere to tradition, I just wanted to offer what my fiance and I are doing (to perhaps spark some ideas) - since the asker wanted ideas with a creative spin.
Reply:Toss it to the guys and have the garter tossed to the girls? Do away with it all together? I always thought it would be a lovely idea to have the flower girls carry a basket of flowers and present one to each important female family member during their walk towards the alter, so another idea is for the bride herself to carry a gathering of flowers, I would tie each off with a ribbon and present one to each important female in the family that way she arrives at the alter empty handed and there is no bouquet to toss. Or use the bouquet as your centerpiece with or without a vase and do not toss it.
Reply:I had some gamer friends who had personalized dice made for their wedding, when it came to the toss time they had a roll off. After the toast and the champaign bottle is empty you can have the girls stand in a circle and play spin the wedding bottle. You can always just draw names. Have a dance off. Play musical chairs for it. Number all the wedding favors for the girls, then at the end of the night draw a number.

Play hot potato with it.
Reply:What about instead of having the bouquet toss, have all the married couples come up to the dance floor and the dj will ask how many of them have been married 1 year sit down, 2 sit down, etc..to see who has been married the longest and give them the bouquet or a gift for being married the longest. Hope that made sense.
Reply:One is to have a group of small "breakaway" bouquets put together to look like one....when you throw the bouquet, more than one woman then has a chance to catch a bouquet....some make up the bouquets with flowers that have meaning (purity, honor, etc), others ad little charms to the bouquets.

I've also seen an anniversary dance done. Start with all married couples on the dance floor. The dj will occaisionally ask couples to leave the floor according to how long they've been married....starting usually at 1 year or less.....to the longest wed couple. That couple are then asked to give the newlyweds advice and are given the bouquet.

Whatever you do, make sure your florist makes a seperate bouquet for you to toss from your "carrying" bouquet.
Reply:I didn't do the flower toss. But I'm wondering can you throw the bouquet while people are seated. It can really go to anyone...
